Examine text | Not very civilised looking. (Note: Every Barbarian in Gunnarsgrunn has their own examine text.) |
Barbarians are brawny attackable NPCs who are part of the Fremennik race. Barbarians are generally located in Gunnarsgrunn, west of Varrock and the Barbarian Outpost. Players may speak to barbarians, but they will almost always respond with hostility ("Wanna fight?", "You come to fight, ya?", "You don't belong here outlander!", "What!?") and immediately attack. Additionally, during battle, they may sometimes cry "FOR GUNNAR!!!!!! !!!"
Most barbarians are below level 10 or 17 but the confused barbarians within the Ancient Cavern are level 132. Barbarians are usually fought by lower-levelled players for relatively easy experience. Although they hit low (20 is the max hit for the level 9/10s, and 30 is the max hit for the level 15/17s), they are somewhat accurate. It should be noted that the barbarians can have different weapons, most of which are non-existent for players, and they vary in accuracy against certain armour types.
There are only few barbarian weapons available for players, the most prominent of which is the one-handed, spear-like Hasta. If a player is like most melee fighters, attacking a Barbarian while wearing plate armour, they should avoid the barbarians wielding hammers and try to only fight the ones with spears and swords.

Trivia
- Even though they are supposedly against magic, they drop runes very often.
- Barbarians may be related to the Fremmenik , as a Barbarian is the one who originally teaches the player to make pyre ships—a tradition which Erjolf says has been with the Fremmenik for a very long time.
- Previously, Barbarians used to yell a battle cry (YEEEEEEEEAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH) which had sound.
- Even the Barbarians at the Barbarian Outpost may sometimes yell "FOR GUNNAR", even though the player is nowhere near Gunnarsgrunn/Barbarian Village
