The Cavern key is needed to escape the cave in Creature of Fenkenstrain. It can be obtained by killing a level 51 Experiment. It takes you to the Mausoleum. You can only obtain one of these keys. If you have one in your possession, you cannot attack another level 51 Experiment, it states, 'You don't have the heart to kill the poor creature again.'

After the quest, the key can be obtained from the chest in the northern part of the Experiment Cave, near the ladder to the Mausoleum.
