Fareed, the Warrior of Smoke is one of the four guardians of the Diamonds of Azzanadra and a boss in the Desert Treasure quest. To wield a weapon while fighting him (including staves), players must be wearing ice gloves. Players must light the 4 torches in the smoke dungeon and head towards the chest in the middle of the dungeon to get a key which opens the door to Fareed's Throne Room, which is the site of the battle. He is considered by some as the easiest boss in Desert Treasure.

Fareed is fight-able along with Damis, Kamil and Dessous as a class B boss monster in the Dominion Tower minigame if the player has completed Desert Treasure. See Dominion Tower/Desert bosses strategy for a guide on how to defeat the combined four bosses.

Killing Fareed

Fareed is considered by some to be rather weak compared to Dessous, Kamil, and Damis, although he does have a somewhat strong defence. He mainly uses melee and can hit up to 360 with it if the player wears Ice gloves, otherwise he can hit up to 410. He also uses magic from time to time, but his magic tends to hit low and with little accuracy. He is nearly entirely dependent on melee, so using the prayer Protect from Melee while wearing magic-resistant armour such as Dragonhide armour is a rather good method to defeat him. Ahrim's is a good armour to use, as it provides magic defence and will give the player a relatively high magic attack bonus enabling players to defeat him quickly. He also has a fairly high defence against melee so players may hit many 0s on him (if they decide to use melee) unless the player has a very high attack level. Since he has a high defence against melee it may be useful to bring an attack potion to help the player hit more accurately. If deciding to use range against him, players should note that all arrows fired at him (except for ice arrows) will automatically turn to ash due to extreme heat. So it is advised not to use arrows that you don't want to lose.

Players should wear ice gloves, otherwise Fareed can hit up to 410 on you. Players should not assume that if they are mages or rangers it will not affect them, because it does to a certain extent. It has been confirmed that the Dwarf multicannon works against Fareed, but is not recommended due to the cost.

Fareed is weak to water spells and ice arrows so these attacks are always recommended. However, he uses a gimmick: you cannot wield a weapon in his chamber unless you're wearing Ice Gloves because his chamber and body are too hot. However, Ice Gloves are easy to obtain. (See the Heroes Quest guide for more details on how to obtain Ice Gloves).

You can still defeat him without ice gloves, if you don't have them or you lost them, and you don't feel like getting them back again. This is done by bringing runes for water bolt/blast/surge and casting it on Fareed. This method has become easier due to an update that allows players to autocast spells without a staff, which reduces clicking. You will need some prayer potions to restore prayer while using protect from melee. His magic attacks are weak enough that they are not at all a threat.

A good method for killing him is to find a safespot behind a rock and then Dragon Dagger (p++) Spec him when you have enough special left, this way you will never be in danger of dying or having to start again. The poison of the Dragon Dagger should end up killing him and you can them simply pick the diamond up.

An older method of killing him was to bring magic or ranged supplies, and trap him on the other side of another player, while using the prayer Protect from Magic. This is still possible to do, however Jagex has made it difficult.

Warning

It has been tested by some players that he cannot be damaged by other spells such as god spells. Thus, it is highly recommended to use water spells only. Water Surge is highly recommended if players can cast it, otherwise stick with Water Wave or Water Blast.

It has also been tested and confirmed, that the Polypore Staff will NOT damage Fareed.

Trivia

  • Fareed means "Special" or "Unique" in Arabic.
  • He seems to be wielding the older version Dragon scimitar updated after the release of Animation Pack 1 except that there is a small spike and no flat edge on the tip of the blade.
  • Prior to the introduction of the Dominion Tower, Fareed had a combat level of 167.
  • He also seems to be wearing what appears to be a version of Torag's helm, except with tusks mounted on his head rather than his jaw.
  • Goliath gloves may be used at full strength against Fareed without the need for ice gloves, but this only works in the Dominion Tower battle since Goliath gloves require completion of The Temple at Senntisten, which in turn requires completion of Desert Treasure.
  • His examine text says he's the warrior of fire despite representing the ancient element of smoke.
