Examine | A nice sturdy bow made out of yew. |
Weight | 1.8 kg |
The Yew longbow is a longbow stronger than the maple longbow that can use arrows up to rune. The yew longbow requires a Ranged level of 40 or higher to wield.
Members can make a yew longbow through the Fletching skill at level 70. First, a player must cut an unstrung yew longbow from yew logs, earning 75 Fletching experience. The unstrung bow is then strung with a bow string, for an additional 75 experience.

Money making
Yew longbows used to be one of the most popular items to cast the High Level Alchemy spell on (along with magic longbows) as players could earn gold while gaining magic experience; however, this is not always the case. Due to the fluctuations in market price, the item may or may not become a profitable venture. If it is, then it is typically considered worthwhile, as players could often train Fletching and Magic at the same time; however, if it is not profitable, it may still be worthwhile to gain a small return on your items (contrary to high alching something that returns little to nothing, which would create a larger loss).
The yew longbow is quite profitable to alchemise for players if they so happen to be self-sufficient as to chop the Yew logs required for the bow, as well as fletch it themselves, although it would require time and dedication. While some players believe that the effort involved is too time-consuming, others believe it is time well spent, as valuable experience (woodcutting, fletching, crafting, and magic experience) are gained at each step of the process, and the coins gained from alchemy are pure profit.
A very common way to make good money is to buy nature runes and bowstrings, but cut and fletch the yew logs. This, on average, gives a profit of 200gp per bow after taking into account the cost of materials. However, if you do not have a woodcutting level of 75, cutting yews will take a long time while buying takes seconds. Make sure to wield a Fire Staff for infinite fire runes while casting High Alchemy. Another great way is to buy the flax and spin it into bow strings for crafting exp, as well as a higher profit. This way makes a large amount of profit, but takes a lot longer to complete.
In addition, it is actually more profitable to simply buy unstrung bows and bowstrings than it is to buy yew logs and cut them, as the unstrung bows cost less than the logs themselves. Profit is again increased if you cut the logs yourself and/or pick the flax and spin it into bowstrings; alternatively, one could simply buy flax from the Grand Exchange, then spin it into bowstrings, also increasing profit. Since more G.E. updates, it has again become profitable to buy ALL necessary materials: yew logs, bowstrings, and nature runes. The only reason for this is because of the significantly lower cost of nature runes now. Buying supplies in groups of 10k might be wise. This method requires you have a large enough sum of money to buy all the materials. After cutting the logs, stringing the bows, and high alching all of them, you will earn around 100gp profit per bow alched.
