An Iron bar is a bar of refined iron ore. Players can smelt it with the Smithing skill at level 15 by using an iron ore on a furnace or by using the magic spell Superheat Item, granting 12.5 Smithing experience.
When a player smelts iron ore in a furnace, there is a chance that the ore will will be too impure to yield an iron bar, resulting in the loss of the ore and the Smithing experience that would have been earned. The chance of yielding an iron bar improves as you level up Smithing. At level 15, the success rate starts at 50%, and increases by 1% with each level until reaching the maximum success rate of 80% at level 45 smithing.
However, there are a few ways to successfully smelt an iron bar 100% of the time.
To get 100% chance of smelting an iron bar, you can do one of the following:
- Wear a Ring of forging while smelting iron ore in a furnace
- Cast Superheat Item on an iron ore.
- Use the Blast furnace to smelt the iron ores
An iron bar can be smithed on an anvil through the Smithing skill to create iron weapons and armour, granting 25 Smithing experience per bar used. A list of iron items that can be smithed from iron bars and the Smithing levels required can be found at Smithing/Smithing tables.
It may be more profitable to sell iron ore instead of making it into bars, since the release of Artisan's Workshop increased the demand for ore.
Iron bars are also the tertiary ingredient in infusing Iron minotaur pouches for the Summoning skill.
This item is a 100% drop from Iron dragons, five at a time.
