For the version won from the Squeal of Fortune, see lucky Zamorak godsword.

The Zamorak godsword is one of the four legendary godswords that was fought over during the God Wars. Requiring 75 Attack to wield, it is created by attaching a Zamorak hilt to a completed godsword blade, which has no requirements and can be done by any player. Along with the Armadyl godsword, the Bandos godsword, and the Saradomin godsword, the Zamorak godsword carries the highest slash bonus and second-highest strength bonus of all melee weapons in the game, aside from certain weapons in Daemonheim, Stealing Creation, and the Dominion Tower.

Like all godswords, the Zamorak godsword has a special attack, Ice Cleave, which deals damage and freezes the target in place for 20 seconds, the same duration as Ice Barrage. It uses 60% of the special attack bar.

Uses

The freezing effect of Ice Cleave is generally not seen as useful for general melee training, leading to the Zamorak godsword's reputation as being the "worst" godsword. This reputation has decreased the use, and therefore price, of the Zamorak godsword; the only reason the Bandos godsword's price is lower is that General Graardor is more commonly killed than K'ril Tsutsaroth, leading to a greater supply of Bandos hilts in the game than Zamorak hilts.

Despite this reputation, players have found a number of specific uses for the Zamorak godsword that render it a highly effective weapon. It is very popular in the Castle Wars minigame when used to freeze flag-bearers, as such players generally wear Ranged armour such as Royal dragonhide armour or other armour with high magic resist in order to more easily defend against enemy mages casting Ancient Magicks. The Zamorak godsword's melee attacks counter this tactic. In the Wilderness, it can also be used to freeze an enemy in place in order to attack from a distance or escape. One technique is to freeze the target and walk under them, rendering them unable to attack regardless of their combat style. From there a player can take time to eat, change equipment, and generally prepare to continue the fight.

The Zamorak godsword has also found use in player-vs-monster situations. It is a popular weapon when fighting Commander Zilyana, as all of her attacks occur in melee range; players can use Ice Cleave to hold her in place, then attack her with Ranged or Magic. It can also be used during the Barrows minigame to freeze the melee-using brothers in place, particularly Dharok the Wretched.

Trivia

A close up shot of part of the updated Zamorak godsword, seen in the 16th BtS video.
  • Like all godswords and the God Wars Dungeon itself, the Zamorak godsword received a graphical update on September 5th.
  • The Zamorak godsword is the only godsword whose special attack always has the full effect if it hits at all. The effectiveness of the special attacks of the Armadyl, Bandos, and Saradomin godswords all depend on how much damage the attack deals.
  • The special attack uses ice even though Zamorak is usually represented by fire and his colour is red.
  • Before an update, the freezing effect of Ice Cleave looked identical to that of Ice Barrage.
