Kayle's shortbow was acquired either by killing Kayle in the quest The Blood Pact, or by just taking his possessions and letting him leave. It could be obtained after the quest by speaking to Xenia.

Even though it had the same stats as a regular shortbow, it looked more like a composite bow due to the length of the limbs. It was mostly useful to new players training Ranged as it had poor stats but could be wielded at level 1 and re-obtained from Xenia for free.

Trivia

• This bow did not make a sound effect when you shot it. This was fixed as of 24 June 2010.
• This bow couldn't be used for Barbarian Firemaking.
• Ironically, although it was called a shortbow, it was roughly the same size as an ogre bow, and had a similar appearance to the yew composite bow.
• It is now impossible to obtain this item due to an update by Jagex and has been replaced by Kayle's sling.
• The shortbow has a range attack bonus of +9, while the sling has a range attack bonus of +5. Meanwhile, the shortbow has no range strength bonus, while the sling has a range strength bonus of +6.5.
