Harralander tar can be made at level 44 Herblore and yields 72.5 experience per herb. It is made by using clean harralander with 15 swamp tars. A player must have a pestle and mortar in their inventory or toolbelt for the herb to be crushed into tar.

These are used when hunting Black Salamanders for net trap bait. It is also used as ammo for Black Salamanders.

Black salamanders are useful at the Barrows, since the magic attack of salamanders is not affected by the player's magic attack bonus. However, since Harralander Tar cannot be obtained from the Barrows chest, some people may prefer to use magic spells for which the runes are available at the chest like slayer dart as you get death runes and mind runes from the chest.
