Dung kalphites are kalphite larvae that roll dung. They are found in the Kalphite nursery during and after the Diamond in the Rough quest. Unlike the kalphite larvae in the main Kalphite Hive, dung kalphites can be interacted with: players can use a slashing weapon slice the dung ball they're pushing, yielding mostly minor rewards; the Kalphite will then flee. These do not count towards fulfilling a Slayer task for Kalphites.

Some of the beetles both sparkle and make a shaking sound. This is used to help locate the ones with rare loot such as rubies, diamonds, ranarr herbs, and potato cacti.

At the end of Diamond in the Rough, it is revealed that the dung beetle that took the Diamond was sent by Scabaras to try and stop the player and Ozan from delivering it to Lady Keli, later revealed to be Amascut, the Devourer.
