Feathers are used in the Fishing and Fletching skills. In fishing, feathers are used as lures for fly fishing. Feathers may also be used as bait for Barbarian heavy-rod fishing, but it is cheaper to use fishing bait. In fletching, feathers are used to make arrows, darts, and bolts.

Buying feathers and selling them at the Grand Exchange is a decent money making method but can be only used once a day because the stores that sell the feathers must restock.

These are the only feathers that can be used to summon a Newtroost during the Creature Creation activity in the Tower of Life, as coloured feathers are not accepted by the altar.

Obtaining feathers

Feathers can be bought at a number of stores across RuneScape and can also be obtained as drops from many monsters, most notably chickens. They can of course also be bought from players. Feathers can also be obtained by killing chickens, which drop them in amounts of 5, 10, and 15.

Coloured feathers can be acquired from snaring birds using the Hunter skill.

Stores

The Witchhaven store and the one in Port Sarim have shared stock, so you will not be able to buy 1000 feather in Port Sarim if you have bought feather in Witchhaven

The Fancy Clothes Store in the members-only portion of Varrock has no stock, but buys all colours of feathers.

When you buy out a shop out of feathers, you are unable to hop worlds to buy another 1000 feather from the same shop, the amount of feathers in that shop regenerates according to the rate per minute in every world.

Feathers used to be available in infinite quantity for 6 coins each from many shops, but due to the personalised shop update in September 2009, feathers were able to rise in price in the Grand Exchange to above 6 coins each.
