The Dagannoth Kings Supreme, Rex, and Prime respectively

The Dagannoth Kings are considered one of the best bosses to kill for money. They drop dragon hatchets, berserker rings, archers' rings, warrior rings, seers' rings, and other drops relatively often. Using a pack yak will further increase your profit as you will be able to bank the dagannoth bones and dagannoth hides you receive. Using Fremennik boots 4 will increase profit as the bones will become noted.

Getting there

A map of the dungeon

The Dagannoth Kings reside in the sixth level of the Waterbirth Island Dungeon. Players will need to get past a series of doors and then run through the dungeon to reach the Dagannoth Kings. To do so, have a friend or two who know the way come to let you through the doors and possibly to bless your grave if you die.

The best way to get to the Dagannoth Kings is to teleport to the house portal in Relekka or run north from the Seers' Village, and then take the boat to Waterbirth Island. You will appear at the southwestern corner of the island and need to run counterclockwise around the perimeter of the island until you reach a dungeon entrance. Rest here until you obtain full run energy.

Entering this entrance takes you into the main room, largely populated by melee-using dagannoths. You will then have to run east until you reach the eastern wall. Both you and your partner should stand on the pressure plates on the northern door (the one leading to the giant rock crabs), open the door, run to the southern door (the one leading to ranged-using dagannoths), stand on its pressure plates, and open it. One of you will have to run north and go through the northern door, which should still be open, while the other runs through the southern door and switches to deflect missiles. At the end of the halls, you will be facing each other across two targets. One of you will need a ranged weapon to shoot down one of the targets, allowing the other through. He can simply melee the door from behind. Climb up the ladder and rest.

Once rested, activate deflect magic. You will need to climb down the ladder twice, leaving you in a small room with wallasalkis, who can hit up to 310 with magic. Always have deflect magic active when in a room with wallasalkis, or you can be quickly killed! Run east and climb down the ladder.

This room is full of dagannoths. Run east and climb down another ladder.

This room is full of giant rock crabs, which do not notice you if you remain behind the ladder. You can rest in here to regain your run energy, then run southeast around the wall and climb down the ladder.

This room is full of dagannoths. Run west across the room and take the second exit, not the one by the southern wall.

This room is full of wallasalkis. Run west and climb up the ladder.

This very small room contains wallasalkis too. Walk a few steps south and climb down the ladder.

This room contains more wallasalkis. Run south and climb up the ladder.

This room contains giant rock crabs, who generally won't notice you unless you move. You can rest and regain run energy here before running east and climbing down the ladder.

This narrow corridor is filled with dagannoth. Run east and climb up the ladder.

This room is populated by dagannoth who seem to only use melee. Run a few steps north and climb down the ladder.

You will now be in a long L-shaped corridor containing dagannoth who again use melee and ranged attacks. Run north, then east, and climb down the ladder.

then You will now be in the area with the rock lobsters. These monsters attack very quickly (throwing knife speed) and can hit very hard. Furthermore, they tend to stack up, leading to large piles that can kill you with one hit. They tend not to notice you if you do not move from behind the ladder, so you can rest for the final run into the Dagannoth Kings' lair. Drink your stat-boosting potions, and heal up here. Run east, go around the bend, and head southwest until the room begins to open up into a very large and relatively dangerous room filled with wallasalkis, rock lobsters, and dagannoths. Activate deflect magic and make sure your melee armor is equipped now. Run east and slightly south and climb down the ladder by the exit to the cavern. You will be in the lair of the Dagannoth Kings, and will likely get piled by all three. If another team is already there, climb up, run east through the passageway to the small summoning obelisk, and log out in the safespot there.

The Kings reside on the sixth floor (the deepest) in Waterbirth Island Dungeon.

  • Dagannoth Prime is the deadliest Dagannoth King. He can hit up to 610 with his highly accurate magic attacks, meaning that you can be two-hit if you aren't anticipating him. He is almost immune to melee and magic attacks, despite being a mage, so you must kill him with ranged. Despite this, his defence against ranged is still relatively high.
  • Dagannoth Rex uses melee on players, hitting multiple players at a time if they stand beside each other in a similar manner to the dragon halberd. He can hit up to 300 on players. He has very high defence against melee and ranged attacks, but is extremely weak to magic. Even players in full melee armor can hit consistantly on Rex if they are using a staff like the polypore staff. He drops the most valuable item, the berserker ring.
  • Dagannoth Supreme uses ranged attacks on players. He does not use magical ranged like many players believe. (This is easily demonstrated by wearing ranged armor, which he hits through consistently, as opposed to melee armor, which lessens the number of his hits considerably.) He can hit up to 280 and has very low defense to melee attacks, especially stab. His ranged attack is a barb from his back, and he will launch multiples if players stand beside each other.
  • Spinolyps inhabit the moat surrounding the Dagannoth Kings' island. They do not hit very high or very accurately (only up to around 100), but their ranged attacks poison you and their magic attacks drain ten prayer points if they hit.

How to kill the Kings

High-levelled players killing the Dagannoth Kings

The Kings reside in a big circular arena. The spinolyps live in the moat around the arena and use poisonous ranged attacks and prayer-draining magic attacks. They are often a pest for players attempting to kill the kings. The kings are very aggressive to players—if a player gets too close, they will attack the player and never stop until the player is dead, the king is dead, or the player leaves. Prime respawns in the eastern side, Supreme at the northwestern side near the entrance, and Rex in the southeast. If you stay in the southern portion, the Kings will not attack you unless you approach them. At the eastern side, generally only Prime will notice you, though, if you stray too far north, Supreme may spot you.

Gear setups

Item slot Low risk tribrid High risk tribrid Rex solo
Notes Decent for players who have never come here before. A minimal risk for a decent amount of profit. This is best used for players who are highly experienced in bossing. Otherwise, do not attempt this. When placing the cannon, you want it to be on Dagannoth Prime's spawn spot, since he will not move unless the player is under him. The cannon does decent damage against the other kings and the spinolyps. This setup is used often as Rex currently has the best drops from the Dagannoth Kings, if you exclude the clue scrolls and RDT items. Rex's best item is currently the berserker ring. This is usually unadvised as there may be other worlds with players killing him, the chances of being killed (x-logging would be your only way of getting to another world, apart from leaving and going to an empty one where the other two kings may attack), or the possibility of an empty world where you can be attacked by all Kings at once. Stay on the eastern side (Rex's side), as Prime and Supreme will not attack unless provoked by another player or if you get too close to them. Rex can be easily trapped here, so there should be no worry except from the spinolyps.

Familiars

There are two main types of familiars which help at the kings: beasts of burden and healers. The pack yak is the best familiar to use as it allows banking of drops. The 100% drops are worth   8,907, greatly increasing the profit per hour. The unicorn stallion is the next best because it can keep you from ever needing food. If you use a spirit terrorbird, you could choose to take 5 to 10 scrolls to allow you to run through the entire dungeon. If you choose to take a fruit bat, be aware that it requires more inventory spaces and more micromanagement while providing greater healing per minute than bunyips or elemental titans.

Note: Bunyip pouches are not recommended because the Kings do not drop raw food. If you cannot use Unicorn stallions (which is 88 Summoning), replace it with a flask of your choice shown above.

Tips and Tricks

There are a few things you can do both before and during combat to increase kill speed and survivability.

Pre-Combat

Make use of the Spa pools, specifically the Sulphur spring, Salt-water spring and Thermal bath. This will give you the best possible start as well as allowing you to run through the entire dungeon.

Bonfires offer a similar life point boost to the Thermal bath; however, boost will last up to 1 hour and boosts your maximum life points. Since Saradomin brews and healing aura scrolls heal for an amount based on your maximum lifepoints, the boost from a bonfire will increase their healing abilities. At 90 firemaking, this is a 10% increase when using Magic or Blisterwood logs.

Attacking and Moving

When attacking the Kings, it is very likely at the start Dagannoth Supreme or Dagannoth Prime will begin to attack once you enter their room. If Dagannoth Supreme is in the middle, it is very likely Dagannoth Rex will come and begin to attack the player also. Kill Supreme very quickly, and keep your lifepoints above700!. This is because Rex and Supreme tend to hit fairly often against players with the increased Defense level from Saradomin brews. Once Supreme dies, run to the top part of the islet and safespot Rex until he dies. Focus on Prime, and if you cannot kill fast enough before Dagannoth Rex respawns, attack Rex because he is much more easier to deal with then Prime in the long run and can potentially increase profits.

When Prime has low health, if you feel that Rex will respawn soon get off of Prime. Kill Rex and then once Rex dies, kill Prime. Then pick up their loots and target Supreme. If you are afraid that one of the two or both will spawn before Supreme dies, push Supreme in the direction he goes (up, down, left, right). This will make Supreme back up and allow for a more smoother kill with a decreased chance of Rex or Prime attacking.

Prayer and Healing

Players with 92+ prayer can safely use soul split to heal from Rex when safespotting. It is also possible to prayer flash soul split when fighting Supreme and Prime. However, if you plan to use it against them, make sure you attack from a different tick as the King, because if this is not achieved, Supreme and Prime will deal heavy damage against you. Soul Split can also be used at the nearby Spinolyps that are attacking you.

If Soul Split is not available to players, a Unicorn stallion will be the next choice. If you cannot use the Unicorn stallion, an Elemental titan will work. If none of them can be used by the player, Blood blitz will be the best source of regaining lifepoints at Rex or the Spinolyps. Even though Blood barrage may seem better (because barrage is better then blitz), the runes are not worth it because rarely the Spinolyps will group together and it is rather pointless against the Dagannoth Kings.

When in a group and attacking Prime its possible for all bar the player being attacked my Prime to disable protection prayers. Prime tends to switch aggressiveness towards players when they get too close to him.

Cannon

A cannon can greatly increase kill rates against Prime. However, you must not constantly load ammo inside as if you cannot kill fast enough the other two Kings will attack you. Place the cannon on Prime's spawn point. When Prime spawns, use the cannon and attack him quickly, as stray cannonballs may attack other Kings. When Prime dies, do not add more cannonballs and reload the cannon when he respawns again. If it begins to decay remember to reset it at the same point.

Drops

The Dagannoth Kings drop such good items often. Always pick the bones up as each one is worth enough to pay for some of the items used to kill them. Being a boss Dagannoth, they will always drop the unique Dagannoth bones, and their hides, which less expensive then the bones, but the hides are used to create Spirit dagannoths. If you are using Fremennik boots 4, the bones will turn into a bank note, meaning more profit per kill.
