Damis, the Lord of Shadows, is one of the four guardians of the Diamonds of Azzanadra, fought during the Desert Treasure quest in the Shadow Dungeon. He has two forms, the first being level 134, the second being level 217. Damis drops the Shadow diamond.

Damis' second form has the ability to drain Prayer. He drains prayer by 20-40 points each time he hits, even if he hits a zero. Keep in mind that Damis is located in a multicombat area, so it is possible to bring a familiar with you to help you fight him. Protect from Melee prayer is strongly advised, as Damis has a maximum hit of 290 and attacks as fast as throwing knives (accurate stance). Because of this, Damis can be nearly as dangerous as Nomad after he goes berserk, although unlike nomad, his attacks can be blocked with prayer.

Damis is fight-able along with Fareed, Kamil and Dessous as a class B boss monster in the Dominion Tower minigame if the player has completed Desert Treasure. See Dominion Tower/Desert bosses strategy for a guide on how to defeat the combined four bosses.

Location

West of the Fishing Guild, down a ladder which requires the Ring of Visibility to be seen. When approaching Damis' location, the player will be told that they hear a voice from the walls telling them to turn back. You will need to be wearing the ring of visibility to be able to see him.

Strengths and weaknesses

Some consider Damis to be one of the hardest bosses in Desert Treasure.

In his first form, Damis wears full black armour with a black medium helm and a 2h sword on one hand. He will be considerably weaker in this form than in the second. He will have a high melee and ranged resistance but his magic defence is tragically low, particularly against earth spells, so a player of level 70 magic using Earth Wave spells could take him down with less than ten casts. Here, he lacks the ability to drain prayer.

Once killed in his first form, Damis cries out "I am Damis, invincible Lord of the Shadows" and immediately removes all his armour except his 2h weapon, entering his second form in which he becomes considerably stronger. He gains a much higher, albeit still not that good, defence to magic and obtains the power to drain prayer by about 30-50 points each time he hits even if he hits zero. He also makes every monster in his War Chamber come to him and assist in attacking the player, however this is not very troublesome for player using Protect from Melee. Still, players using protection prayers should have about 20 doses of Prayer potion in order to bypass Damis' prayer draining ability.

God spells (Saradomin Strike, Claws of Guthix, Flames of Zamorak) work well on him too. If you snare/entangle him and attack him with god spells, you may not even need more than 2-3 Prayer potions, though rare, may not need them at all. Iban Blast is quite effective in both forms.

Tip: Damis says a line meant to distract or intimidate the player every few seconds. Ignore these in his second form or you may not notice a drop in prayer points. Keep your eyes on your prayer points, and only look away briefly to check his health.

Safespots

A safespot to the northeast

There is a safespot that is commonly used by players to save prayer potions. Once Damis appears run back out the way you came. Head south then east. Keep running east until you come to a narrow corridor and stand behind the rat. The rat shouldn't move so you should be able to safely mage him. This way you shouldn't need more than one prayer potion(4) and you will only need that on your way to Damis. See the Desert Treasure quest guide for more tips and methods.

It is also possible to get a friend to trap him and mage/range him.

Another, less known but more useful safespot is also present. After he appears, run to the north. Trap him behind the corner of the wall. It should be now possible to mage him without him being able to hit back.

If for some reason, you kill him but are unable to retrieve the diamond, simply return to the dungeon once more and the diamond will 'magically' find its way back there. You do not need to kill Damis once more.

Trivia

  • After defeating Damis's first form, those who fail to defeat the second form may return to continue the battle with the second form. The first form of Damis will not be fought again.
  • Prior to the introduction of the Dominion Tower, he had a combat level of 103 in his first form and 174 in his second.
  • Damis, like Vannaka, Sir Vant, and Kamfreena, is able to hold a Two-handed sword in one hand.
  • Unlike the other three bosses (Kamil, Dessous and Fareed), he does not reappear in Recipe for Disaster.
  • As well as the other Diamond Guardians, Damis too has an Arabic name meaning "dark" or "shadows" to match the diamond he is guarding.
