The TzHaar-ket-om (also known as the Obsidian maul) is one of only seven mauls in RuneScape, excluding the ones found whilst dungeoneering, the others being the Meat tenderiser, Granite maul, Chaotic Maul, Gadderhammer, Golden Hammer, and the Barrelchest anchor. Players can buy the Tzhaar-ket-om at the weapons store in the TzHaar City for 75,000 Tokkul, and it can be obtained as a uncommon drop from TzHaar-Ket. This weapon cannot be made using the Smithing Skill. Players must have level 60 Strength to wield this weapon.

It is affected by the Berserker necklace, receiving a 20% damage increase when the necklace is worn.

This weapon has the same crush bonus as a godsword but it's wielding requirements aren't as high. Therefore, many Pure players go for this weapon for the low price and the ability to hit reasonably high for its requirements. However, it lacks the major strength, prayer and devastating slash bonuses that the godsword has.

This weapon is used commonly in player-killing because the only requirement is a Strength level of 60, which made it possible to have a low Combat level while being able to deal high amounts of damage. As a result, people have been making pures, called "Obby Maulers" which keep their combat level low and allows them to possess a large amount of Strength, causing large damage, without having to gain combat levels primarily from Attack and Defence. These pures are becoming more popular among Pay to Play pures, initially attacking with Ranged or Magic and then switching to the Tzhaar-ket-om when the target's Hitpoints are low. It is also notable that it is not a good weapon for players with level 60 or high in attack, because a Dragon battleaxe has the same strength bonus, but is slightly faster and is one handed, although when the TzHaar-ket-om is combined with a Berserker necklace it provides 20% more damage. The max hit recorded is currently 975 in Castle wars with castlewars bracelet, Berserker necklace, and Turmoil.
