A Long bone is a non-tradeable bone dropped by monsters that drop big bones, such as giants and Ogres. It is also possible to obtain a Long bone by killing Mutated jadinko guards and males, despite the fact that they don't drop big bones at all.
Long bones may be sold to Barlak, a Dorgesh-Kaan cave goblin, for 1,000 coins each. Dorgesh-Kaan can be accessed after the quest Death to the Dorgeshuun. You will be given a lecture on Construction, granting 1,500 Construction experience (xp) (as long as your Construction level is at least 30).
Long bones can be buried, but this is not recommended as they only give 15 experience for each bone buried (the same as big bones). There is a message warning you if you try to bury it. (The warning tells the player that "someone might buy it off them", which is still correct and up to date information.) They can also be used on an altar in a player-owned house.
If used in the Ectofuntus, you will receive the same experience as if you used big bones (60 xp).
If you have reached a certain point in the Chosen Commander quest, Barlak will be too startled to talk about the bones.
Obtaining long bones
Although there are many monsters that drop this, it is fairly rare.
A good place to collect them is the Enchanted Valley. This requires the quest Fairy Tale II to be started. Monsters such as river trolls and rock golems that have very low combat levels make collecting them quicker.
Killing Hill giants and Moss giants are probably the fastest way to obtain long bones as they have a low combat level. They are also good to train on due to their low defence and relatively high life points. Also, killing Desert Lizards is another efficient way to obtain a Long Bone. They have a low combat and low life points.
After the update of the Impetuous Impulses activity on 22 February 2010, it is also possible to obtain long bones when looting Zombie impling jars.
