Astral esshounds are a type of esshound found on the middle and upper floors of the Runespan. They can be siphoned for astral runes, requiring one rune essence and giving one astral rune and 35.5 Runecrafting experience for a successful siphon; an unsuccessful siphon will give no runes, consume no essence, and give 0-2 experience. They require level 40 Runecrafting to siphon. You can absorb 5 astral runes before the esshound dies, leaving 50 rune essence. However, if the player stopped siphoning before the esshound was drained, they will not receive any essence. They respawn every 5 seconds.

Chipping

Astral esshounds can also be "chipped" for rune essence. By using 10 cosmic runes on the esshound, you will receive 10-20 rune essence. However, the same esshound cannot be chipped twice in a row; you can't chip the same creature until you have chipped three other Runespan creatures of any type.

Lower level

Astral esshounds cannot be found on the lower floor.

Middle level

Astral esshounds can be found on platforms 1, 7, 8, 14, 16, 24, 32, 36, 40, 46 of the middle floor.

Upper level

Astral esshounds can be found on platforms 2 and 10 of the upper floor.
