- This article is about cooked herring. For the raw version, see Raw herring.
Herring is a seafood that is made by cooking a raw herring with a Cooking level of 5. Herring stops burning at level 41 Cooking. When consumed, herring will restore 50 of a player's Life points. It is also the result of cooking a Red herring, found only during The Fremennik Trials, which will also produce a Sticky red goop, needed in the same quest.

Trivia
- One of RuneScape's Monty Python references is revealed if players use a herring (cooked or raw) with any tree in RuneScape (except the one outside the Draynor Village bank, in which the security guard is hiding. It will also not work with Spirit Trees). The text will say "This is not the mightiest tree in the forest", in reference to one of the lines in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. If used with the Grand Tree, the text replies "It can't be done!" in reference to another line in the movie.
- The value of one Herring in Mobilising Armies is 4 Investment Credits.
