2004 Christmas event
In 2004, there were no holiday drops and only one holiday event, which was the Christmas event. Players could visit Father Christmas on RuneScape from five of the most popular towns on RuneScape which included Varrock, Falador, Ardougne, Catherby and Yanille. Santa Claus would give out free yo-yos to any player who had talked to him as part of a Christmas Present. The simplicity of this event may not have been the fact that Jagex may have not had time to put any structure into this quest but in fact the high amount of requests from players for a new holiday item.
Many players were disappointed because the new Christmas holiday item was untradeable, however mostly this was because Jagex began to realise that their holiday items would continue to rise in price if they began to make them tradeable again. Many players had attempted to make the yo-yo tradeable, along with the scythe. However this led to more conflict as a few players had managed to find a way to duplicate these items, including partyhats. Jagex were seen as discouraging the selling of rare holiday items from the start, as in one of the older updates they stated about Santa hats that: "Of course you can sell them, but that wouldn't be the spirit of Christmas."
