The Granite mace is a weapon that was released along with The Chosen Commander quest on March 17, 2009. This quest is NOT required to wield this weapon. It is a drop from Goblin statues, Ork statues, Ogre statues, and Ourg statues in Bandos' throne room. Players may use the granite mace to keep themselves safe from Bandos followers (but not from General Graardor or his minions) in the God Wars Dungeon. Level 50 Strength and Attack are required to wield this weapon. The mace is held upright in the hand, similar to the old holding position of the dragon longsword.

Its special attack is the same as the Granite maul's special attack, Quick Smash. The special uses 50% of the special bar and allows the player to attack instantly. As with the Granite maul, players can have good timing and hit four times in quick succession (first normal hit, special, special, second normal hit), under perfect circumstances, players can hit 611-611-611 which sums up to 1833 damage, although this is extremely unlikely. Its animation is similar to that of the Ancient Mace, where the player swings it down then overhead onto the enemy. If the special attack is selected before entering combat a warning message is displayed explaining that the special attack is instant and will be wasted if used on the first strike. The special attack does not work when attacking portals in Pest Control.

Originally, when first released the granite mace was at 40k in the Grand Exchange. This rose for the first week of its release but began to fall at the 80k mark, only rising to 200% of its original price.

As this was a new item, many players did junk trading to sell the item for prices greater than the Grand Exchange price. The price range for this item, on world 2, was 150,000 coins to 500,000 coins.

The ancient mace found in the Another Slice of H.A.M. quest looks very much like a worn-out granite mace. Both were used by Bandos's favourite warriors in combat during the God Wars.

The drop rate of the Granite mace seems to be surprisingly high, comparable somewhat to that of dragon boots. Thus it is not uncommon to receive multiple drops in a single trip. It is actually possible to receive a Granite mace from one of the three statues fought during the final battle in The Chosen Commander quest, although the chances are slim.

It is notable that players may remain for prolonged periods by way of healing over time techniques. It is a great advantage for higher level players to utilise such tactics as the majority of the statues within the Bandos' throne room do little damage. Some widely practiced methods include the Saradomin godsword, Guthan's set, bunyip familiars, and regen bracelets to name a few.

It is one of the four current melee weapons on RuneScape that can hit up to three times nearly instantaneously, the other three being a Granite Maul, dwarven army axe, and Dragon Claws.

Mace Vs Maul?

There is often debating on which of these weapons is better, however both have their advantages. The mace may be weaker but it is less likely to be seen and thus is less expected than seeing someone wield a granite maul, making people feel more secure, and it can hit 4 times in quick succession (normal hit, special, special, normal hit) making it very effective.

However, the maul is stronger and can hit a lot harder, despite being more expensive, often pures choose the maul because of its strength bonus, but the mace is still a worthy weapon for a 50 attack pure.

If you are lower level, using the maul is better, but comboing with the mace is done more easily, and with perfect timing, you could potentially 4 hit an opponent depending on strength.

Trivia

  • The granite mace gives a stab attack bonus, however it has only crush attacks.
  • This mace looks similar to that wielded by the Dungeoneering boss Rammernaut.
  • Due to the fairly fast drop rate from statues inside Bandos's Throne Room, the Granite mace is often hard to sell due to the large amounts of players farming them.
  • This mace resembles the one wielded by Lord Sauron in Lord of The Rings.
