There are several types of guards that can be found throughout the world of Runescape. Their primary purpose is to "protect" the town from invaders such as goblins, foreigners, or other monsters. Generically, they are equipped with a bronze medium helmet, a chainmail, a sword, and a shield. Guards can be found in almost every town throughout Runescape including Varrock, Falador, and Ardounge.
