Red partyhats are holiday items that come from opening Christmas crackers that appeared during the 2001 Christmas event. The partyhat sets are expensive due to their rarity, being a discontinued item, and high demand among players. Party Pete and all of the Party Room staff wear red partyhats. They rose considerably in price with the introduction of free trade in February 2011.
According to the 2009 player submitted poll #15, red partyhats are the second most sought after partyhats.[source needed]

Trivia
- In RuneScape Classic, the Fancy Clothes Store in Varrock's south-east area stocked a red partyhat; but there was just a place holder for it (at 0 stock) which was never filled. Players would wait to see if it would spawn, but it never did and was later removed.
- The red partyhat and the Blue partyhat were the first items to reach the 1 billion mark on the Grand Exchange.
- Prior to the Partyhat Duplication glitch the red partyhat was the cheapest partyhat (Approximately 1/5 the price of the purple partyhat) and was even passed in price by the red h'ween mask at one point.
