A Watermelon is an item of food produced via the farming skill. It is grown by planting a watermelon seed in an allotment patch. However, like pineapples, watermelons cannot be consumed whole. Players must first use a knife to cut the watermelon into three slices. Each of these heals some lifepoints when consumed, though the number depends on the player's statistics.

Other uses for watermelons include being used as an ingredient in summer pies, though players need level 95 Cooking to make these. They can use watermelons in a Compost Bin to make supercompost, or use one to make the head of a scarecrow. Players need 6 watermelons to pay a gardener to watch over a growing jangerberry bush, or 10 to watch over a growing pineapple tree.

Watermelons are useful for high levelled players in remote areas like the God Wars Dungeon or while training. It is possible to bring a full inventory of watermelons and slice them when you need them, which can be used to replace expensive food like sharks. The amount a watermelon slice heals is affected by your maximum LP in the same way as Saradomin brew or a Unicorn stallion's scrolls. The heal rate per watermelon slice is as follows:

Players can grow their own watermelons by planting three watermelon seeds in an allotment patch at level 47 Farming. They can plant a nasturtium seed or white lily seed in the flower patch to help protect the growing watermelons from disease, or pay the gardener 10 curry leaves to watch over the plants and ensure they grow. Planting a watermelon patch earns the player 48.5 farming experience points. Harvesting a watermelon patch earns the player 54.4 farming experience points per melon. Wielding the Magic Secateurs whilst harvesting increases the yield of a melon patch by 10%.
