Unicorn stallions are level 88 Summoning familiars. These familiars are healers, and are able to cure poison and disease. Unicorn stallions have the lowest Combat level among the higher-levelled Summoning familiars, and will only fight when attacked.

The unicorn stallion's right-click ability causes it to cure any poison or disease afflicting the player. This ability drains 2 Summoning points each time it is used and can be used successively without pause, unlike most right-click abilities which require the player to wait a short time before using them again. Because of this, the unicorn stallion can effectively act as an alternative to any kind of antipoison, as well as Relicym's balm. Unlike antipoisons, however, the unicorn's cure ability does not convey any temporary poison immunity, so players may find it difficult to use against monsters that poison extremely frequently. Furthermore, the summoning point drain means the player cannot use the ability for long periods of time unless the player can recharge points by way of a Summoning Obelisk, Super restore or by using Summoning potions.

Unicorn stallion pouch

[view][talk]

A Unicorn stallion pouch is made by using a Summoning pouch on a Summoning obelisk with 140 spirit shards, a Green charm, and a unicorn horn in the inventory. Making the pouch earns 154.4 experience points. Using the pouch to summon a Unicorn stallion gains 1.8 experience points and costs 9 Summoning points.

Healing aura scroll

[view][talk]

A Healing aura scroll enables the use of the Healing Aura special move for a Unicorn stallion. Using the pouch on a Summoning obelisk creates 10 scrolls.

Healing Aura

A player using the Unicorn stallion's special, Healing Aura.

Healing Aura is the special move for the Unicorn stallion, which heals up to 15% of the total life points of the summoner and expends 20 special move points, so it can be used three times before the special attack bar must recharge. As the scrolls are stackable, this is a very common healing method used by players who wish to stay in a certain place (usually a boss) for a long period of time.

The Spirit cape, a Dungeoneering reward costing 45,000 tokens, can be worn to reduce the amount of special move points used by 20%. While this reduction may not be useful in the short term, it may be beneficial if healing aura is being cast repeatedly.

Healing analysis

In order for a Unicorn stallion to heal faster than a Bunyip without the use of Summoning potions, the player needs 360 life points (a Constitution of 36). The sustained healing rate of a unicorn stallion is determined by the rate at which the special moves points replenish. This takes 120 seconds to fully replenish, so three healing aura scrolls can be used every 120 seconds, for a total healing of 45% of life points. At a constitution of 36 (360 life points), that yields 162 points healing every 120 seconds. A bunyip can heal 20 life points every 15 seconds, which is 160 points every 120 seconds. Players with high Constitution benefit even more from the unicorn, with 99 constitution players (990 life points) being healed about 445-446 points every 120 seconds. Of course, the player will need to carry sufficient scrolls to use the unicorn stallion's ability all the time, about 80-85 scrolls per stallion.*

  • at a 54 minute life-time from a unicorn and a 15 points regeneration per 30 second, it means that you can use 3 scrolls every 2 minutes. meaning that you can use 3x27 scrolls. meaning that you need a maximum of 81 scrolls per pouch.
  • at a 58 minute life-time from a Titan and a 15 points regeneration per 30 seconds, it means that you can use 3 scrolls every 2 minutes. meaning that you can use 3x29 scrolls. meaning that you need 87 scrolls per Titan pouch.

Fire, Ice, and Moss Titans can use Titan's constitution scrolls, which heals 80 points (including up to 80 above the normal maximum level) and boosts defence by 12.5%. The sustained healing rate of a titan is thus 240 points. Players with a Constitution of 54 and above will gain more healing from a unicorn (sustained healing rate of 243 points at level 54, rising to 445-446 points at level 99). In situations where healing is critical, Constitution 54+ players should use unicorns in preference to titans.

Despite superior healing abilities, the cost of scrolls can be an unnecessary expense in cases where a bunyip can already heal the player as fast as monsters can deal damage, as a bunyip heals without using scrolls. This is a common scenario for training or slayer tasks. In such cases, there is little reason to spend extra money on unnecessary healing, and a bunyip should be preferred.

If a player is fighting monsters that drop a lot of raw fish, for example, Aquanites, a bunyip is potentially better than a unicorn stallion. The bunyip's swallow whole scrolls allow the player to be healed using these fish as if they were cooked. Likewise, against monsters with a chance of inflicting poison, the unicorn stallion's Cure ability will be useful. Finally, in situations where healing can't be fully handled by a bunyip but a unicorn is not really needed, a titan can be used to heal and to give players defence boosts. Although unrelated to healing, one may also take in consideration the fighting potential of the titans (for multicombat situations), when deciding between familiars.

Trivia

  • The unicorn stallion's examine info implies that RuneScape has horses, but Jagex has put many jokes in the game about how there are no horses in RuneScape.
  • In Stealing Creation, there once was a glitch where the clay familiar's right click list would include the Unicorn stallion's special move: Healing aura.
