Bogrog is an ogre in Gu'Tanoth. He sells Summoning supplies, which is quite useful since he is near a Summoning obelisk. Players can make Summoning pouches, then swap them for shards. You must have a summoning level of 21 before he will swap shards with you.
He can be found on a sidepath just before the entrance to the city, so players will not need to start the Watchtower quest before talking to him.
Travel
Getting to Bogrog is fast using the following methods:
- Get to Yanille.
- Use the Teleport to House spell with a house in Yanille.
- Use the Watchtower Teleport spell, after completing the Hard Ardougne Tasks and switching the Watchtower Teleport location to Yanille.
- Use a chipped teleport to house tablet modified to teleport to Yanille, after completing the Love Story quest.
- Use the Lodestone Network's Yanille destination.
- Get to Bogrog from Yanille.
- Have a Mithril grapple and Mithril crossbow or higher. Run to the southern wall, grapple, run to Bogrog and craft pouches. This requires 21 ranged, 39 agility, and 38 strength, and there is a bank in Yanille.
- Go to Castle Wars using the ring of duelling, and run to Bogrog. Players can use a ring of duelling for a quick teleport back to the bank near Castle Wars, or use a TokKul-Zo to get to a bank quickly.
- Take the Gnome glider to Feldip Hills, after completing One Small Favour. Run a short way north from there.
Swapping pouches for shards
In the Perils of Ice Mountain update of 7 May 2008, Bogrog gained the ability to swap Summoning pouches and Summoning scrolls for spirit shards<ref>Jagex. "Perils of Ice Mountain". 7 May 2008. RuneScape News. *</ref>. For each pouch, he will trade a player 70% of the spirit shards required to make that pouch. For example, a granite lobster pouch requires 166 shards, so Bogrog will give 117 shards for the pouch. The amount of shards is rounded up to the nearest whole number, so while 166 * 0.7 = 116.2, the player will receive 117 shards due to the fact that it is always rounded up. Bogrog accepts noted and unnoted pouches. He is not as generous when it comes to swapping scrolls, since he will only return about 30% of the spirit shards.
It is usually better to high-alch the pouch or sell on the Grand Exchange for those pouches created with lower amounts of shards; except for some of the higher level pouches where a player can save money by swapping with Bogrog. See Summoning pouches table for comparisons.
There is one limitation in that the player must have a Summoning skill higher than the level required to make the pouch. Bogrog will tell the exact skill required when the player clicks the "value" option on the pouch; the value is a sliding scale starting at level 21 for all pouches of level 10 and below and decreasing gradually from there. He will also exchange scrolls for shards. To dispose of a large amount of shards quickly (Pikkupstix buys in multiples of 50 and the GE has various limitations) visit a pet shop in Yanille or elsewhere.
For a calculator showing the profits of swapping shards, see Calculators/Shard swap.

How many Spirit Shards do you need to buy?
With the use of Bogrog, you can turn the pouches you make back into spirit shards; the amount of shards you get is usually 70% of the required shard number for the pouch. Utilising this, the amount of shards you need to initially buy can be drastically reduced, however the effectiveness of this varies greatly with number of shards you initially have and the amount of times you are willing to exchange your pouches.
The formula which calculate the effective amount of shards you own is as follows
S = initial amount of shards
n = number of trips done to Bogrog
i = parameter
However, it becomes tedious to recalculate this continuously to find the required number of shards you need initially. It is much easier to first decide how many trips to Bogrog you are willing to do as the amount of trips dictates what percentage increase you will ultimately get (regardless of initial count). The increases can be seen below:
Trips | Percentage Increase | Divide by |
0 | 0% | 1.00 |
1 | 70% | 1.70 |
2 | 119% | 2.19 |
3 | 153% | 2.53 |
4 | 177% | 2.77 |
5 | 194% | 2.94 |
6 | 206% | 3.06 |
7 | 214% | 3.14 |
8 | 220% | 3.20 |
9 | 224% | 3.24 |
10 | 227% | 3.27 |
15 | 229% | 3.29 |
20 | 230% | 3.30 |
25 | 231% | 3.31 |
30 | 232% | 3.32 |
Let's say you needed 55,000 shards to attain a certain level, the first thing you do need to decide upon is how many times you would be willing to visit Bogrog which will usually be 10 times, any more than this the gain in shards is minimal; for example doing 20 trips instead of 10 when having an initial starting shard count of 100,000 only yields an extra 6,405 shards. The amount of trips you are willing to do is something you have to decide.
At 10 trips, the increase is 227% so the effective amount will be 327% of the initial amount, or 3.27 times the initial amount. You then divide 55,000 by 3.27 to get 16,820 (rounded up). Therefore, to effectively have 55,000 shards whilst willing to do 10 trips to Bogrog you only initially need to have 16,820 Spirit shards.
Note: The division can easily be done on your computers calculator.
2011 Christmas Event
Bogrog attended the 2011 Christmas Event Banquet. Wizard Acantha sits to the right of him and Sanfew sits to the left. Bogrog sits in a bigger chair than almost everyone else because of his size.

Trivia
- Bogrog was the first male ogre that had the new ogre graphics, the other male ogres followed about a year later(17 March 2009). Before the other male ogres received it, though, he had the same idle animation as the ogresses (lifting up stomach).
