The Swamp toad is a small creature with removable legs. If you choose to remove them, toad's legs appear in your inventory in place of the swamp toad. The text "You pull the legs off the toad. Poor toad. At least they'll grow back." appears in the chat box.

The toad's legs can be used to make gnome cuisine. They are also used in agility potions (when mixed with clean toadflax) as a secondary ingredient.

The swamp toad itself (with legs) is the tertiary ingredient for making barker toad pouches.

They are also dropped by tortoises, and obtained from pickpocketing Gnomes.

Tree Gnome Stronghold is the most common place to find these.

Collection

Swamp toads fetch a fair price on the Grand Exchange due to their use in Summoning (the barker toad pouch is the second best pouch to make from gold charms in terms of Summoning experience).

A full inventory of toads is worth Expression error: Unexpected < operator. coins, and they respawn quickly. If you collect them in a more populated world the toads will respawn much quicker. For this reason, gathering them in the Tree Gnome Stronghold has become a common way to make quick money, with no skill requirements.

Players are advised to collect them on a well-populated world to reduce the respawn time (see Server), while avoiding worlds where other players are collecting if possible; there will then be enough spawns for the player to collect constantly. A Beast of Burden is also recommended. Remember to keep auto retaliate OFF because on rare occasions gnome mages or rangers can attack you from the tortoise pen.

It takes roughly a minute to bank and return, using either of the banks in the stronghold. A slightly faster banking method is to teleport to Mobilising Armies using a ring of duelling, and use the spirit tree to return to the stronghold.

Players may receive swamp toads from opening a box of summoning ingredients, a possible reward from the Familiarisation Distraction and Diversion.
