Rise of the Zombie Monkeys!
Rise of the Zombie Monkeys! was an event during the last of the Wild Weekends, where the community team would be spawning invasions of zombie monkeys (level 65) throughout the weekend. If you killed at least 5 on a given day a medium XP lamp would be rewarded. The event was available Saturday through Monday, allowing for 3 XP lamps to be earned.
The community team were be updates stating which 2 worlds the zombie monkeys would be spawning at on the Forums, as well as Twitter @Runescape. It should be noted that you could NOT kill monkey zombies at Ape Atoll Dungeon for the 5 kills.
Locations
Zombie monkeys started spawning on the hour about every 3 minutes for about 15 minutes on only 2 worlds as announced on RuneScape Forum or Twitter. On Monday from 11am to 7pm UTC the monkeys were spawned only on 1 world for about 20 minutes. At 8pm it was back on 2 worlds for about 15 minutes. It ends at 11pm UTC. There were about 15 sessions per day.
They had been appearing at these 6 locations:
- Varrock Square
- Lumbridge Castle
- Edgeville Bank
- Mudskipper Point
- Cabbage patch south of Falador
- Draynor Lodestone
Combating the Monkeys
The zombie monkeys are level 65 and fight using a hand melee attack. They WILL do damage, so lower-levelled players should bring food. The locations at which they spawn are sure to be crowded, so it is a good idea to use long range fighting styles (Magic, Ranged). Upon death, the monkeys will drop bones and a banana.
After killing 5 monkeys in one day you would be rewarded with a medium XP lamp. The XP lamp can be used on any skill. You can only earn 1 lamp per day, so after you have killed 5 zombie monkeys, it is advisable to leave the area out of courtesy towards the other players.
Difficulties
Due to the extremely high amount of players and NPCs in a small area, it is advised to lower your graphics setting to the lowest possible option in order to reduce inevitable lag.
Zombie monkeys will only spawn on free-to-play worlds, due to the large number of players using cannons to get their kills, preventing others from getting theirs. This means that any player wishing to use their lamp on a members' skill such as Herblore or Construction must hop back to a members' server.
Trivia
- Monkey greegrees can not be made from these spawned monkeys.
- The location at which zombie monkeys will spawn could not be determined using any formula. The only way to tell when and where there would be a zombie monkey spawn was by following it on the Forums or Twitter.
