Lord William de Adlard is a Varrockian noble seen during the second RuneScape novel Return to Canifis. He is very fearful, even scared of stairs. He is not very religious, even to the point of refusing to accompany his friend to the chapel in Varrock palace to pray. He has feelings for Lady Caroline. His family sigil is a silver headed fox.

During Return to Canifis, William is tasked with accompanying Squire Theodore during his time in Varrock. He goes with Theodore to the Flying Donkey Inn where Kara-Meir has supposedly taken a room for the night, buying him a dwarven stout. He also later accompanies Theodore, Doric and Castimir to the site of a Wyrd killing.

He accompanies the embassy being sent to Morytania to call of the Wyrd's attack and demand the children returned up to where they reach the temple at Paterdomus, where he stays for a night then returns to Varrock to aid Ebenezer in his illness and in his investigation into the Wyrd's actions.

During Legacy of Blood, it is revealed that he is a worshipper of Zamorak primarily due to the fact that it is a Zamorakian priest keeping him alive. When Lord Mews attempts to arrest him, Theodore intervenes, allowing his friend to escape. He has his lands and titles stripped for this. During the battle of King Botolph's Tower, he kills a zombie attacking Pia and rallies the defenders, instructing them to aim for the head and heart. He is nearly killed due to his blood not clotting, but survives and marries Lady Caroline.

His father and grandfather were both chancellors of Varrock, and it is expected he will be as well one day. He has a cousin called Rudolph who is a Zamorakian mage, killed by Kara-Meir, and an uncle, also a Zamorakian mage, who is killed by the Varrock guard.

He is bad at combat, and is mocked because of it, especially by Lord Sulla after his rise to fame for killing the Wyrd. Despite this, he is critical in the battle of King Botolph's Tower, rallying the defenders and showing them how to kill the zombies, even striking the head off one.

He is a haemophiliac, and following a riding accident, was saved by a Zamorakian priest in exchange for his devotion to Zamorak. In exchange for a blood clotting potion, he provides courtroom gossip to the Zamorakians.
