Ebenezer, or The Alchemist as Castimir calls him, is a character in the first RuneScape novel, Betrayal at Falador.

History

Early life

In his youth, Ebenezer reveals he tried to become a magician, but felt it wasn't suited for him. He still has the runes he had from his youth into his late years. Sometime in his life, he was married, but his children died in infancy due to small pox and his wife died in childbirth.

Gar'rth

During one of his travels, Ebenezer encounter the young werewolf, Gar'rth, who fled from his family in Morytania and was stealing from farmers to stay alive. Knowing of his condition and background, Ebenezer adopts Gar'rth and takes him to Taverley to request help from the druids. There, he meets his friend, Castimir, an apprentice wizard from the Wizard's Tower, who becomes his partner in a debate between magic and science through out the book. The druids of Taverley developed a potion to help stabilise Gar'rth's condition. However, the potion grows more powerless every time its used, forcing Ebenezer and Castimir to head to the Monastery to request the help of the monks. Along the way, he picks up Kara-Meir, Squire Theodore, and Doric at Gunnarsgrunn, As well as Arisha the head priestess from Gunnarsgrunn.

Siege of Falador

Soon, Ebenezer is swept into the Siege of Falador. During the battle, he comes up with a clever, strategic tactic using hay bales coated with pig fat and has archers fire flaming arrows at them, setting the hay bales on fire and divides the goblin horde in two.

Discovering the Traitor of the White Knights

Ebenezer then helps Sir Tiffy Cashien and Marius try to find and capture the traitor. After a clever trick where they let slip that a wagon supposedly full of gold, but is actually full of archers is leaving Falador to Sir Erical, they finally find their traitor. After finally locating Sir Erical, the group realises that Sir Erical has been dead for a while and are trapped by Sir Finistere, only to be saved thanks to the sacrifice of Sir Pallas. After a battle of stealth, clever tactics, and Ebenezer dabbling in magic Marius slays Sir Finistere and leaves his body in the sewers.

Epilogue of Betrayal of Falador

After the battle, Ebenezer is planning to help the nobles of Falador regain their valuables they hastily threw into the moat of Falador. However, in order to do so, he must head to Varrock to purchase some equipment and chemicals he'll need to do so. Due to the large income of money and the feeling the other members of the party deserved some sort of reward, Ebenezer adopts Kara Meir, Squire Theodore, Castimir, and Gar'rth and was going to add Doric as an heir too, but Doric was older than Ebenezer and was rich in his own right. He promises to meet with everyone at Varrock on Midsummer's Eve.
