Gertrude Fairweather is a woman who lives in a small house just west of Varrock and south of the Cooks' Guild. She is the character to whom members must talk to begin both Gertrude's Cat and Rat Catchers quests. She also plays a minor role in A Tail of Two Cats. After completing Gertrude's Cat, Gertrude gives you 1 kitten for free. If you lose it or exchange the grown cat for 100 death runes in Ardougne, you may buy another kitten from her with 100 coins.
With the activated Ring of charos you can to choose the colour of the kitten.
Gertrude has 4 children, Shilop, Wilough (both of whom are featured in Gertrude's Cat quest), Kanel and Philop (neither featured in a quest). She also lives with Caleb Fitzharmon, although the exact nature of their relationship is unknown.
Trivia
- The name Gertrude may refer to Gertrude Of Nivelles [626 to 17 March 659] who was a saint and patron of cats.
- As written in the Varrock Census of the Defender of Varrock quest, Gertrude's husband was named Walter Fairweather and was a travelling merchant, apparently nowhere to be found in Gielinor at the actual moment. As she currently lives with Caleb, it is possible that they broke up, or he died.
- While doing A Tail Of Two Cats, the player, while talking to Bob about Gertrude, calls her "the crazy cat lady", although Gertrude has no history of craziness. The dialogue:
- Player's cat: Don't you know who your parents are?
- Bob: All I know is that Gertrude found me on her doorstep one day. She looked after me when I was a kitten.
- Player: The crazy cat lady?
- It is possible to make 30,000+ (depending on the price of Death runes) coins per cat, assuming the player trades the cat from Death runes, then sells them.
- When the player says 'The crazy cat lady?' This may be a reference to The Simpsons Character, 'The Cat Lady'
- When buying a new kitten from Gertrude and you have a full inventory a message in the chatbox says: "You don't have space in your bags for a new kitten", Notice how it says "bags" instead of "bag".
