An Earth rune is a special type of earth rune used during The Slug Menace. It is made by using a blank earth rune on an Earth altar in the normal way and is used to unlock a mysterious door in the newly discovered shrine beneath Witchaven. In order to unlock the door the player must also have made a special air rune, a special fire rune, a special mind rune and a special water rune. It is made by using one of the three pages that are found during the quest. You must have one or more rune essence as there is the chance that you might shatter the essence creating "rune shards". Unlike normal earth runes, this cannot be used to cast a spell.
