The dragon keepsake key is a consumable item purchased from Solomon's General Store that converts a wearable item into a cosmetic skin<ref>Mod Wilson. "Tears of Guthix: Go with the Flow". 6 November 2012. RuneScape News. *</ref>. In other words, the player will look like equipping that equipment no matter what he/she is wearing<ref>Solomon. "Solomon’s General Store: Dragon Keepsake Box & Keys". 8 November 2012. RuneScape News. *</ref>.
Any unlent item equippable in the head, cape, neck, body, legs, gloves, or boots slots can be used with the key as long as the player has the requirements to wear it. Items wielded in the weapon or shield slots (handheld items) cannot be used on the key.<ref>Mod William. "Keepsake Keys FAQ". 6 November 2012. Recent Game Updates Forums. *</ref> Once an item is used on a key, the key disappears, and if the player wishes to replace a slot, they must purchase another key.
It costs 140 Runecoins for one, 300 for a pack of three, and 440 for a pack of six (the 10% members' discount applies to all prices). The dragon keepsake key can be brought into the dungeons of Daemonheim.
If the player attempts to convert an item they do not have the proper level(s) to equip, they will not be able to put the item in the box. If the player attempts to do so, the game will return with a message stating that the player does not have the required levels to equip the item. For example, a player will be unable to store Metal armour equipment if the player's Defence level, Completed Quests or other requirements does not support the requirement of wielding it normally.
The dragon keepsake key, when used, gives the player the appearance of wearing a certain item or item set, for example Armadyl armour. It does not, however, give them the stats of that armour; they will have the stats of whatever they are actually wearing.
To activate the cosmetic override, a player must open the equipment interface and select the 'Customisation' option. The player can then choose under the category of 'Dragon Keepsake Box' which Cosmetic armour they would like to override their current appearance by highlighting the desired options.
It is also possible to reclaim the item that was turned into a customisation back to one's own inventory at will; however, the dragon keepsake key will remain destroyed and a new key must be acquired to make a new cosmetic override for one slot. To do this, in the 'Customisation' interface, a player would right-click the customisation and choose 'Reclaim-item'. However it is not possible to reclaim any Dungeoneering armour that have been added using a dragon keepsake key.
A player can switch between equipment wielded and the cosmetic override will not change or have to be re established once more. A player can also wield nothing in order for the cosmetic override to work. The cosmetic override of the dragon keepsake key will not display in PvP areas. It is only possible to have one of each item slot as an override at one time.
Trivia
- Coloured Dragon Ceremonial equipment reverts back to the default red when put in the keepsake box.
- The Quest Point cape and Completionist cape can also be stored in the Dragon Keepsake Key as long as the requirements are met. However, it is yet unknown if the cosmetic override of being able to appear wearing these items will be supported when there are new requirements for wearing these items.
- It is currently unconfirmed if binding an untrimmed achievement cape will keep it untrimmed apon achiveing a second level 99.
- The Prison Uniform from the Rocking Out quest is compatible with the Dragon Keepsake Key. However, it is impossible to have both items in your inventory simultaneously.
- Certain quest items cannot be placed inside of the box, such as Glarial's amulet.
