Examine | A heavy barbarian Fishing rod. |
Weight | 1 kg |
The Barbarian rod is a heavier version of the fishing rod used during the Fishing portion of Barbarian Training. When you start that portion of the training Otto Godblessed will let you take this fishing rod from underneath the bed in his cabin; if you lose or drop it, get another from the bed. It uses fishing bait, feathers, fish offcuts, roe, or caviar as bait. It is the only fishing rod capable of catching Leaping trout, Leaping salmon, and Leaping sturgeon. It can only be used in the fishing spots at Otto's Grotto. The unofficial world for heavy rod fishing is world 116. You also gain marginal Strength and Agility experience when you fish with this rod. Heavy-rod fishing is notable for being the fastest Fishing experience in the game, with the exception of fishing in class 2 dungeons using a gatherer's ring.
With use of the recyclable bait, players never need to bank. It can also be stored in the Toolbelt. That said, if catching a certain type of fish as part of the challenge system, you need to bank that type of fish as the quartermaster will need to take those off of you.

Trivia
- On 6 January, 2009, Barbarian fishing became slightly slower than before because of the "cut-all" option that Jagex introduced.<ref>Mod Liono. "In Pyre Need". 6 January 2009. RuneScape News. *</ref> This made cutting the fish take slightly longer. However, using feathers or bait to catch the fish will increase the experience per hour considerably.
- Although different in appearance in the inventory, the Barbarian Rod is no different in appearance to any other fishing rod in the Fishing animation.
- The Barbarian Rod appears to contain parts made out of Runite.
