Yak hides are a 100% drop from yaks. They are similar to cow hides as they can be cured and made into yak-hide legs and yak-hide bodies with the use of a needle and thread. Curing costs 5 coins and must be done by Thakkrad Sigmundson on Neitiznot. Although the body takes 2 yak-hides to craft and the legs take 1 yak-hide, they both give the player 32 Crafting experience. Thus, making legs is more efficient for training Crafting.
Yak hide is also the tertiary ingredient in infusing Pack yak pouches. These can be made by using 211 shards, a yak-hide, a crimson charm and a pouch on a summoning obelisk. Level 96 Summoning is required.
Players who paid taxes for Vanligga Gastfrihet in Jatizso in the The Fremennik Isles quest can buy them from her for a price of 50 coins each. She has an initial stock of 1,000 yak hides and is very close to a bank, so purchasing hides from her is a faster method than killing yaks. If the player has not paid her taxes, she will ask for money, 5000 coins, before the player can trade with her.
