Flattened hides are dropped by Dagannoths located on Waterbirth Island and in the Chaos Tunnels. They can be used to make spined armour. Take a flattened hide, 10,000 coins and 3 Dagannoth hides to Sigli the Huntsman to create a Spined body. To do this, the quest Fremennik Trials must be completed.

Trivia
If you look closely at the icon of the hide, you will notice some dark shadows, these seem to be a Dagannoth's spikes on its back, which means, that most hides dropped from Dagannoths are from their back.
