A Smelting urn can be created at 35 Crafting and is used with the Smithing skill to help with gaining experience. It can be constructed by using 2 soft clay on a pottery wheel to create a smelting urn (unf). After firing it in a pottery oven, a fire rune must be used on the Smelting urn (nr) to make a Smelting urn (r) and to enable it to collect 'scraps of metal'. Once it starts to be filled, it becomes a Smelting urn.
The urn can be filled by smelting certain bars that require at most level 50 in Smithing, including bronze, iron, steel, and mithril, as well as steel cannonballs. It is filled when the player has earned 750 Smithing xp with the urn in inventory. To fill the urn, players must smelt bars in the furnace or by superheating. Smithing items from the bar does not fill the urn. Once the smelting urn is full, it becomes a smelting urn (full) and can be teleported to Ernie for 150 Smithing experience.
These work with the Smelting Urn:
- Smelting Bronze, Iron, Steel (+cannonballs), and Mithril bars.
- Using Superheat Item to fill an urn.
These DO NOT work with the Smelting Urn:
- Smelting Silver bars or Gold bars.
- Using the Blast Furnace to fill the urn.
- Making Burial Armour in Artisan's Workshop
If smelting two bars at once in the Edgeville furnace, the urn only fills with xp from the first bar that is made. The second does not count.
