The Security book, or RuneScape Account Security, contains information on how players can protect their account.

The book can be bought from a General store, can be found on the book shelves in your Player-owned house, or can be given to you by a Security Guard if you speak with him. Note: The Security Guard can no longer be received as a Random Event but instead can occasionally be seen wandering Runescape.

These glitches no longer occur, due to a game update.

  • Some players have said that there are numerous glitches concerning the Security book, including a moonwalk glitch. This occurs when a player follows another player with the book, and the player with the book begins walking to a location and then starts reading the book. The reader stops walking, but the following player continues walking to the location selected by the other player. Since a player always faces the player being followed, once the following player passes the other player, the player appears to be walking forward but is moving backwards -- "moonwalking".
  • If you read the book and then clicked the close sign, your character would still be holding the book until you walked somewhere.
  • When you were reading the book, clicking on any prayer and then turning off the prayer resulted in you still reading the book until you moved.
  • If you read the book and then moved any item in your inventory (it works moving the book itself) on any other slot of the inventory you'll exit the book interface while in the book reading position.

It was possible for a player to make it look like that they were hugging/kissing another player; this was very common among in-game couples.

Password Tips

A good password should be easily remembered by yourself but not easily guessed by anyone else. Choose a password that has both letters and numbers in it for the best security but don't make it so hard that you'll forget it! Never write your password down or leave it in a text file on your computer, someone could find it easily! Never tell anyone your password in RuneScape, not even a Moderator of any kind.

Recovery Questions

Ideally your recovery questions should be easy remembered by you but not guessable by anyone who may know you or given away in conversation. Choose things that do not change, like dates or names but don't choose obvious ones like your birthday and your sister or brother's name because lots of people will know that.

Other Security Tips

Bear in mind that recovery questions will take 14 days to become active after you have applied for them to be changed. This is to protect your account from hijackers who may change them. Never give your password to ANYONE. This includes your friends, family and moderators in game. Never leave you account logged on if you are away from the computer, ir only takes 5 seconds to steal your account!
