A Proto-tool is one of the rewards that can be purchased with points gained from playing the Stealing Creation activity. When the tool is operated, the player has the option to transform it into one of the following tools: hatchet, butterfly net, hammer, harpoon, knife, needle, or a pickaxe. All versions of the morphic tool can be used for normal actions (such as using a knife for fletching, or a hatchet for woodcutting), and double experience will be gained for using them. The tool starts at 100% charge, and when the charge is used up it disintegrates. The amount of charge remaining can be checked by right-clicking the tool and choosing Count-Charges. The life of the tool depends only on the amount of bonus experience received, not the number of times it is used.

This item is almost exactly like the volatile tool, except that the player gets to choose the transformation type. As a result, slightly less bonus experience is gained because of this choice. The colour is slightly different.

It is important to note that the morphic proto-tool, and any of its tool transformations, are not stackable in the player's bank. It is also important to note than many secondary uses of the transformed tools normal forms (hammer, knife, etc.), are not available to the sacred clay variants.

Note: If more than one tool of the same type is in the player's inventory (such as two or more sacred clay knives), the tool that appears first in the inventory will be used and the others will keep their charge.

  • Gives double experience to mainly smithing and construction.
  • This tool lasts for a total of 64,125 Smithing experience. That is 32,062 Smithing bonus experience per tool.
  • This tool lasts for a total of 50,750 Construction experience. That is 25,375 Construction bonus exp per tool.
  • This tool lasts for 53 oak larders.
  • If used for construction, it will not double any experience given in other skills as a bonus for certain construction items, e.g. the 25 smithing experience given when building some armour stands.
  • Interestingly, the hammer can be used to make Fremennik round shields on Neitiznot and it gives the bonus to crafting.
  • It will crack coconuts if the coconut is used on the hammer.
Sacred clay harpoon
  • Gives double fishing experience per fish while used.
  • Can be used until roughly 23,500 fishing experience is gained before crumbling to dust. (That is, using a fully charged Sacred clay harpoon until it disintegrates provides 11,750 extra fishing xp)
  • The animation takes 50% longer, therefore you can only achieve 2 attempts in the time you could make 3 attempts with an ordinary harpoon or barbarian fishing. This also makes the use of swordfish gloves useless with the sacred clay harpoon. You will still gain 300 experience per swordfish, which if you multiply by the attempts (2) you get 600, which is the same as the 200 experience you would gain without the harpoon multiplied by the attempts (3), 600. The only extra experience you get for using both will be the 80 xp from each tuna you catch. However, this slower animation may be similar to the faster animation of the barb-tailed harpoon in that the different animation speed results in the same actual fishing speed.

  • Gives double woodcutting experience while used.
  • Crumbles to dust after 30k - 40k experience (Depending on your level).
  • You can cut 100 yew logs with it before it crumbles to dust.
  • For the fastest experience, it is recommended that you cut Teak Logs in Tai Bwo Wannai's rare tree enclosure.
Sacred clay pickaxe
  • Gives double mining xp.
  • Mines about 207 iron ore for a total of 14490 xp.
  • Gives roughly 14k experience before breaking.
  • Bonus experience does not count for ores mined by the effect of varrock armour.
Sacred clay fletching knife Gives double fletching experience while used.
Sacred clay butterfly net
  • Gives double hunting experience when hunting with a net.
  • Lasts around 5000xp before crumbling to dust.

All XP rates vary depending on your current level. Please remember that these numbers are only approximations, not the exact figures.

  • This item is worth 21,333 coins on the items kept on death screen.
  • Even though this item is NOT stackable in a bank, when choosing the option to take more than one out of bank, it takes out multiple proto tools
  • The Proto-tool reward items you get look similar to class 4 items within stealing creation.
  • These tools stack on top of the bonuses received from the Skilling Pendants from the Squeal of Fortune.
