A primed bar is a bar of elemental metal that has undergone several processes making it receptive to the magical forces of the machines on the lower levels of the Elemental Workshop dungeon. Primed bars can be used in the dungeon to make mind, body, cosmic, and chaos bars.

Fabrication

Primed bars may be made by processing an elemental bar in the second basement level of the elemental workshop. There are two levers that will operate the claw; the west one lowers and raises the claw while the east one rotates it 180 degrees.

Dunking the bar into the lava

  • Operate ("pull") the east lever at the southern part of the room to rotate the crane & claw. Position the crane & claw over the jig cart.
  • Place the elemental bar on the jig cart underneath the purple claw by "use elemental bar -> jig cart".
  • Operate the west lever once to lower the purple claw a second time to grasp and pick up the bar.
  • Operate the eastlever to rotate the crane so that the purple claw and your bar are over the molten lava.
  • Operate the west lever to dip the bar into the lava.
  • Operate the west lever again to pull the bar out of the lava.
  • Operate the east lever to bring the purple claw and the golden, hot bar back around & to being above the jig cart.
  • Operate the west lever to drop the bar back onto the jig cart.
  • Operate the west lever again to raise the purple claw.

Move the jig cart to the press

  • Pull the lever in the middle of the room (the jig cart operating lever) that is just underneath the yellow sign w/the cart symbol on it to send the jig cart & the bar to the next station.
  • Pull the lever directly next to the press (right clicking on it yields "An old lever") on the west side next to 3 pipes which disappear into the floor of the room to flatten the bar.

Move the jig cart to the water tank

  • Return to the lever in the middle of the room (the jig cart operating lever) that is just underneath the yellow sign with the cart symbol on it. Pull the jig cart operating lever again to send the cart onward to the next station.
  • The cart will stop in front of a water tank.

Submerging the bar in the water

  • The flattened bar must be submerged in order to cool it. On one side of the flattened bar is the door to the water tank, on the opposite side is a lever ("An old lever"). Pulling this lever will open the door to the tank next to where the flattened bar has stopped. Pull the lever. The door will open. If one chooses "Examine door", "A watertight door" will be the result.
  • East of the lever which opens the watertight door is a "Corkscrew lever". Select "turn corkscrew lever" twice to pick up the flattened bar and load it and the jig cart into the water tank.
  • Return to the lever which opened the watertight door & pull it to close the watertight door. The bar & the trolley should both now be inside the tank & the door should be closed. The tank must now be flooded to cool down the bar.
  • West of the corkscrew lever are two piles of crates. A round steering wheel-like water valve is between them. Go to this water valve and prepare to turn it. Before turning it, look at the level of water in the tank. The water should be at the level of the floor & the rivets which run along the bottom of the walls should be visible. Turn the valve. Your actions yield; "You open the valve." Move east & turn the valve that is located just east of the corkscrew lever. This yields the notice; "You close the valve." and you'll notice that the water in the tank should rise up to halfway up the side of the tank. However, if the tank does not flood just rotate each valve once more. The bar should now be submerged & cooling.
  • After submerging the bar, turn the east valve again to lower the water in the tank, then return to the valve on the west side & rotate the valve to drain the liquid from the tank. There should now be no water in the tank.
  • Return to the lever which opens & closes the watertight door and pull it. The watertight door should open. Return to the corkscrew & turn it twice to place the bar and the jig cart back onto the track.
  • You must close the watertight door (or the jig cart cannot move forward). Return to the jig cart operating lever and operate the lever to move the cart to the final stage. If the cart does not move it is because the door to the water tank is blocking it. Close the watertight door & then return to the jig cart operating door & operate it & the jig cart will move further along the track to the final station.

The final station

  • Pull the lever adjacent to the last station to start the fan. The messages; "The fan starts to blow" then "The machine starts rumbling" should pop up.
  • Click through the messages telling you that the machine turns on,and then pull the lever once more to turn off the fan.
  • Once the fan rumbles to a halt, pull the jig cart operting lever in the centre of the room. This will bring the jig cart and the white colored bar back to the start. Retrieve the finished primed bar by selecting "take from the jig cart". The crane will swing out of the way & you'll be able to take the bar. "Examine primed bar" yields; "A primed elemental ingot". Congratulations, you are successful!

Assuming one starts with ideal conditions (the tank is empty and the left and right valves are both closed), it takes approximately 2 minutes and 15 seconds to turn one elemental bar into a primed bar. The length of this process is probably part of the reason why items made from primed bars are so expensive on the G.E.

Trivia

  • The creation of the primed bar requires all the four elements. An elemental bar is dipped in lava (fire), flattened by a press (earth), submerged in water (water) and is then cooled and dried using a giant fan (air).
