A Polypore stick is needed to make a Polypore staff. It is dropped by ganodermic beasts in the Polypore Dungeon, and players with 80 Farming may use 3,000 Polypore spores and 15,000 fire runes to make a Polypore Staff. This process requires both hands to be free, and rewards 300 farming experience. Boosts such as Garden pies or spicy stew do work, though the latter is unreliable. The Assist System may also be used. The staff itself has 3000 charges upon being 'crafted' and requires no runes when casting the spell. The value of the stick has dropped nearly 4 million in price since its release, and has reached a fairly stable price of around 45,000 coins due to its high-level alchemy value.

It can be used as a weapon, requiring level 80 Magic to wield.

The price to fully charge or recharge a staff at current Grand Exchange prices costs   267,000.

• In an 28 November 2011 response to a player's question in the Recent Game Updates forum, Mod Ash confirmed that the Polypore stick is "... dropped only by the ganodermic beasts, and NOT by the ganodermic runts. So that's level 95 Slayer, and you have to kill the big one."
