Poison Waste
The Poison Waste is a large, mostly inaccessible, marshy area of Tirannwn, south of Isafdar. It is located on the western coast of Gielinor, and also has a southern coast. Needless to say, the name adequately describes the deadly, toxic nature of the sludge permeating this area.
The only way to physically go inside the Poison Waste is by using a fairy ring (code D-L-R), which will teleport players to a small island in the swamp (indicated by the travel icon on the map). This island is used in the quest, Fairy Tale III - Orks Rift to unlock the queen's hide out, and you can unlock Exposed, the piece of in-game music unlocked by players who have travelled to the Poison Waste, or to cast the High Alchemy spell repeatedly in an undisturbed, remote location. This practice is fairly commonplace, as many players find alchemy, as with all grinding, easier to concentrate on in a peaceful environment free of distractions, although the Poison Waste is a seldom-chosen destination.
It is revealed in The Path of Glouphrie that the poison waste originates from Arposandra, who made poisonous chemicals with their experiments and pumped the waste to the surface.
The area's only significant use to date is the collection of sulphur on its mucky shores and the location where coal-tar can be collected from the sludge itself. The sulphur is used during the Regicide quest, and the coal-tar is used in both Regicide and Mourning's Ends Part I.

Trivia
- The fact that the sludge consists of coal-tar suggests that coal is used in the process of modifying Anima Mundi, as is occurring in Arposandra. Then, somewhere in the process, the coal is converted into the waste product of coal-tar and is pumped to the surface.
- An observant player will note that gas seems to bubble up from the swamp of the Poison Waste. This could be from the toxic substance covering the landscape there or simply a geological feature of the area, although the latter is unlikely.
