The top half of monk's robes provides a Prayer bonus which is slightly greater than that provided by the bottom half. For non-members, this bonus is only surpassed by that of the holy symbol.
This piece of clothing links the wearer to Saradomin; thus, when a player enters the Castle Wars portals or the Bandit Camp (Kharidian Desert), the same effects will apply as if he or she was wearing a piece of god armour. In the God Wars Dungeon, this robe top (along with the robe bottom) will protect you from creatures/followers of Saradomin in the dungeon, making it of high demand and value.
It was graphically updated on 7 May 2008. Despite this garment having a hood attached to it, it does not affect the head slot. It spawns upstairs in the monastery along with a Monk's robe (bottom). Due to the relatively high prayer bonus and no combat requirements, in addition to being relatively cheap and easy to replace, this combination is popular in PvP situations. Its icon in now seems to display a line on the neck area instead of a Saradomin star.
