Marker seeds are used to plant Marker plants, similar to the way mithril seeds are used to plant flowers. They can be planted in most areas and can only be removed by the player who placed it there, or captains in the same friends chat. They were released on the 15 July 2009 along with an update. Faruq's stall is located in Al Kharid market next to Ali Morrisane's stall. They can be purchased for 65 coins each. The bag of marker seeds can plant an infinite number of marker plants, but the plants can not be planted fewer than 10 squares away from each other, and has 10 second cooling time.
The seeds can be simply planted to mark a spot, or can be made to point north, south, east, west, north-east, north-west, south-east, south-west, or the player's current direction. All players can see the plant indicating direction if shown. Your marker plants are temporary and are destroyed after six minutes, or when you log out. Players can use the plants to mark out paths or trails to follow. Other players might plant Marker Plants to confuse that path. However, the 10 square distance limit applies to all players planting marker seeds.
Trivia
- There is a glitch where multiple plants can be planted in same area. The more plants, the more people required to plant it.
- Players can use the plant to "hide" if they make it facing East. Instead of seeing the player, they will only see the plant. This is popular in rushing
- There was a glitch where one person can plant marker seeds anywhere (i.e. bank) and can plant as many as they want. This has been fixed.
- These are the only seeds available for free players.
- Players were also able to use Marker plants to catch bots, an example was where bots would use the Daemonheim bank, a marker plant could be planted in front of the banker, causing bots to malfunction. They were also used to trap bots in Aubury's shop in Varrock. Players would talk to Aubury first, then step onto his square, and then plant a marker seed facing east. This has been fixed.
