Combat instructors

Inside the building.

The Combat instructors are tutors that give instructions for lower-level players on how to use combat. The three tutors are Mikasi, the Magic tutor; Nemarti, the Ranged tutor; and Harlan, the Melee tutor (who also sells the Defence cape). They can be found at Lumbridge.

After the graphical update in April, the combat tutors were relocated inside the building with new feature. Inside the building, there are a few targets: magic dummies for testing spells on, melee dummies for attacking with melee, and targets to aim arrows at. Mikasi used to supply runes, Nemarti could supply arrows, and Harlan would lend the player a sword and shield. Mikasi and Nemarti only give out supplies every half an hour; however, after the tutorial update in September 2009, the tutors no longer give free items; they are now spread in different locations. Throughout various shops, especially in Lumbridge, the clerks provide various free items to help new players. A bronze dagger can be received from the Lumbridge general store, air and mind runes can be collected from Aubury's shop, and bronze arrows and regular bows can be found in Lowe's shop, all free to be taken. Since then, the popularity of the hall has decreased; people rarely train at the archery targets now since they need bronze arrows to train but no arrows are provided, along with the fact that the targets give very little experience.

Due to a recent update, players can only train on these dummies if they have a combat level of 15 or lower.

The building was popular when it was first introduced, but after a while, most players have neglected the area because they are training instead on monsters more for their skill level.

There is a first floor for the building with three rooms for each of the tutors, this is probably just for decoration like the training shields and swords near the walls.

Advantages

  1. No risk of death, as the dummies cannot retaliate.
  2. Can train skills of all three combat types.
  3. An effective, but costly way of training Magic

Disadvantages

  1. Little experience is gained by attacking the dummies and targets.
  2. Ranged targets require bronze arrows, which the Ranged Tutor does not give.
  3. Ranged targets cannot be auto-attacked, meaning the player has to click for each individual arrow shot at the target.
  4. After reaching a certain XP or level from the ranged targets, the targets will yield no more experience for the player.
  5. The dummies can only be hit for a maximum of 140.
  6. Arrows fired at ranged targets cannot be retrieved.
