The Bird snare is an item available from the Hunter supply stores in Yanille by speaking to Aleck and Nardah or by speaking to Aylesh Beaststalker in Taverley. These snares require no bait. They are set in Hunter areas to catch the various birds of RuneScape. Snaring birds always provides bones, raw bird meat, and variously coloured feathers to be used in fishing or fletching.
Bird snares are used in the Bird Snaring method of training hunter.
Bird snares have three stages, as shown below. The first being the setup stage, in which the player has newly set a trap and is waiting for a bird. The second stage consists of a fallen trap, whether it failed from a bird's attempt, or simply fell of its own accord. The third, and preferred, is a successful trap, from which a player will need to take off the bird, claiming the bones, bird meat, and feathers, before they can proceed.
Trivia
- The bird snare is modeled after an actual trap, called the Ojibwa Bird Snare or Ojibwa Bird Pole Trap, that was once used to catch Passenger Pigeons in North America.
- If you examine it after a bird broke it, you will receive the message "The trap has been sprung but has failed to catch anything".
- The snare uses the same animation as when you light a fire, players also move West, as is with fire lighting.
- It takes about 2 seconds to set a snare.
