The Air Guitar emote requires a player to unlock at least 500 songs in the RuneScape Music Player, and it features the player rocking out on an air guitar. The emote even plays 5 notes when activated. The player must have been a member to have unlocked the number of music tracks required. However, a former member can perform this emote on an F2P world if said player has already fulfilled the 500 track criteria.

Players trying to get 500 songs should train Dungeoneering or do Quests; these methods will unlock many songs quickly.

A Cape of Accomplishment, instead of an emote, was the original plan for the reward for unlocking 500+ music tracks. An emote was decided instead.<ref>Mod Mark. "Mod Mark - I Need Your Help". 15 January 2010. RuneScape Forums. *</ref>

Trivia

  • Mod Mark replied to a user's question on the forums saying that "they had imagined there was a music cape", and in his clan chat saying "the music cape would be too hard to get", and that this emote was released instead. A completionist cape has been released now, however, which requires all music tracks to be unlocked.
  • There was a glitch after the Z-buffering Update, that the emote sound was cut off half way through. This was fixed on of 15 October 2010.
  • If players do the Air Guitar emote and then quickly enter a cave or shortcut, they will appear to stop playing the guitar. However, the notes will continue to appear.
  • Upon unlocking the 500th track, players get the message "You've unlocked 500 music tracks and can use a new emote!".
  • There are 10 "combat tracks" plus several boss tracks in each floor environment of Dungeoneering, making it a fast way to unlock this emote.
  • There was a glitch in which the players weapon main/offhand items were not unequipped when performing the emote.
