This blog was written by Mod Timbo and dates to 11 November 2010.
Editor's Note
Welcome to October's Clan Submission Blog! We took a short break after RuneFest while we gathered our wits and recovered from such an epic party. Recently, we've been reviewing what we do to support the clan community, including the Clan Submissions Blog, so hopefully in the coming months you'll be able to see the fruits of our labour. Until then, keep sending us in your fantastic artwork, articles and anything else that you would like to see on here. You can get these through to us by sending them to [email protected] and having 'Clan' somewhere in the title. Until next time, have fun and enjoy the blog!

Clan Interview: Wilderness Guardians
In this edition of the blog, we managed to get an interview with the founder and leader of Wilderness Guardians - His Lordship. As you will have seen in the last edition of the blog in one of the images, His Lordship and some other Wilderness Guardians guys came to RuneFest. Without any further ado, here is the interview!
Mod Timbo: How was the Wilderness Guardians formed and what's the story behind the name?
His Lordship: I was a level 40ish character back in classic, earning my living by collecting chaos runes in the Dark Warrior's Fortress in the Wilderness, when a PK team found me and used the door shutting technique to PK me. Well, I got upset and formed a clan, going around recruiting people who hated PKers - we were originally called the "PK PK's". After 3 days I realised this was clearly a mistake. The Wilderness Guardians was an equally literal description of what we did, and it sounded a little nicer. Since then my stance of PKing has changed somewhat, for the better I hope, but our core belief remains - that combat should be played out honourably.
Mod Timbo: How would you sum up your experience of being a clan leader for the past 7 years?
His Lordship: Your questions make me want to cry. I started when I was 15 and now I'm 22. I grew up with "clan leader" as part of my identity. It taught me life skills - managing problems, scheduling, animation, marketing... a whole heap of skills I apply to my real life. It's been a remarkable journey and I don't think a couple of sentences can truly justify it all. But I wouldn't trade a minute of it, even the mistakes. The more I more I learn, the more I realise I'm still incomplete as a leader. There are so many lessons and approaches, and there's no right way to lead. And the clan world is constantly changing. I can't fall back too much on experiences I had on 2003. I've got to be constantly learning.
At the end of the day, I don't think it's possible to sum up that amount of time. Every experience is so different, and powerful in a unique way. Actually, that's the beauty of the clan world. You never quite know what's around the corner. Lets end it there before I lose any more brain cells.
Mod Timbo: What are your thoughts and opinions on how the clan world is in the present and how it's changed over the last couple of years?
His Lordship: Five years ago, your typical clan would offer many things. Skilling, PKing, non-wilderness events, merchanting and so on. After the 2007 wilderness update and the introduction of clan chats, there was a VERY sudden onset of change.
For a start, the introduction of the clan chat created a surge in the number of clans. These numerous clans had to compete for the limited players, and this forced them to get better at what they did. They started realising then that it was better to be superb at one aspect, such as PKing (in the case of clans such as Runescape Dinasty) or Skilling (for example, Divination), rather than be decent at many things. Mind you, there are pros and cons to this, but I see more cons, the biggest one being that to get a complete experience, one needs to join several clans to do skilling, boss hunting, PKing etc... But one thing we can be thankful for is that now there is more choice than ever, and there is a clan that caters to every need - there are even clans that like to ruin the fun of other clans.
Mind you, it is becoming increasingly hard for a new clan to succeed, because the competition is so tough. My advice to an aspiring leader is to find something that makes your clan unique. Have something that no other clan has, or else you'll find it hard to recruit.
Mod Timbo: You are infamous for a rant over voice comms a couple of years ago, how did that come about and how have you dealt with the 'stigma' of that within the community ever since?
His Lordship: Ok, well, before the readers start Youtubing my rant, I must warn them to turn down their volume and plug in their headphones in case the parents are nearby.
Back in 2005, WG was on a PK trip, and we got backstabbed by a bunch of disgruntled WG and ex-WG... and I mean massively barraged to death.
They were Americans mostly and I was Australian, so I came up with the brilliant idea of recording a rant to be played back to them later. Well, it became an instant hit and led to my sudden fame... but for all the wrong reasons. In retrospect, I shouldn't have been so stupid but I'm still glad, because it makes a lot of people laugh - even myself!
The clan world is one of the most underrated aspects of this amazing game. I encourage everyone to scratch beneath the surface and find a clan whose company they enjoy. You'll find something amazing that you didn't know was missing from your gaming experience.
Clan Articles
We get a whole variety of clan articles about various things from how to make money in PvP to what events they like to run. This month, we're focusing on Skill Prodigy who celebrated their 1st birthday this year in June! Although a lot of clans are older than this, it's still an achievement to make it so far. Here it is:
Skill Prodigy's 1st Birthday!
Written by Leoprincess4
On Wednesday, 23rd of June 2010, Skill Prodigy celebrated its 1st Birthday. The leaders had been busy little bees all month, scurrying around to make sure it all went to plan, and much to the clan's delight, it was a huge success.
Events included a member’s only costume party, on Tuesday night, the 22nd, with prizes for the most bluest, most purpleist, most expensive and most creative costumes, but needless to say all of the Prodigy costumes were truly remarkable.
On Wednesday night, the 23rd, all of the prodigies, both ranked members and community members got together in uniform, marching from Lumbridge to Draynor, continuing to Falador, Edgeville and finally to the Grand Exchange in Varrock to unleash a huge torrential wave of Prodigy Pride. Amongst the sea of coloured text, happy faces, butterflies, skill cape emotes and balloons, our members stood out in the crowd proudly demonstrating the family atmosphere of our clan.
From there it was to the Leader’s house in Taverly for an interview by an intrepid reporter, and lots and lots of kegs and wobbling screens.
Most clans don't survive past the 1 year milestone, so this is truly a remarkable achievement indeed. We owe our success to the strong core of values that the leaders share, the dedicated members themselves who also share these values and of course the strong support that the leaders have received from the Jagex Moderators Clan team, namely Mod Timbo and Mod Kathy who have taken time out of their busy schedules to support the leaders of the clan and many clans like us by answering our barrage of questions in game and on the forums. This has been greatly appreciated, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
To all the Prodigies who are reading this, you did yourselves and the leaders proud, and I hope that we stay as strong now as we do in the future. Keep your spirit up, work hard and the things that we can achieve together will be limitless.
Cheers to Skill Prodigy's first birthday and many more to come!
We want your submissions!
That’s right, YOU! If there is anything that you would like to share with Jagex and the clan community here on the Clan Submissions page, then do let us know! The way in which you can do this is by sending us what you have, preferably as an attachment if it’s any artwork, to [email protected], putting ‘Clan’ in the subject somewhere. We’ll take a look at what you’ve sent us - be that clan facts, interviews, articles, artwork and much more - and then pick out what people would like to see and put it on the page. I hope you enjoyed this edition of the Clan Submissions page!
