Palm tree

The Palm tree (also known as the Coconut tree) must be grown with the Farming skill. Level 68 farmers may plant a palm tree seed in a plant pot that has been filled with dirt from any empty gardening patch. A gardening trowel is needed to plant the seed, then it must be watered. This action is all performed in the inventory or backpack section of the screen.
The planted seed will become a palm sapling in less than five minutes and can then be transferred to a Fruit tree patch. The fruit tree patch must be raked clean of weeds. Compost or Super Compost may be added prior to planting, and once planted (using a spade), the nearby farmer may be paid to watch over your tree. Payment is 15 papaya fruits which may be noted to save you inventory space.
An Amulet of nature may be bound to the patch to provide progress on its growth. Once mature, the tree produces up to six coconuts at a time.
Planting the palm seedling gives 110.5 farming experience. A healthy palm tree, when checked, provides 10,150 farming experience. If the farmer watches the tree, then disease on the tree may be removed using secateurs. However, if left alone, the diseased tree will die.
A palm tree sapling will take 16 hours to fully grow.
Each coconut, when picked, gives 41.5 farming experience. Once all 6 coconuts have been picked, the tree will slowly produce more coconuts until all 6 are available again. However, the coconuts may be picked any time they show on the tree. It takes approximately 45 minutes for each fruit to respawn.
The coconuts are used in the Herblore skill to make extra strong potions, and as payment to gardeners for looking after Magic trees.
Production costs
The data in this table is based on the Grand Exchange prices of a Palm tree seed, an empty Vial, Coconut milk and the residual Coconut shell, assuming one seed is processed to 6 vials of Coconut milk and 6 Coconut shells and a gardener is paid with 15 papaya fruits to keep the patch disease free. Farming all 6 fruit tree patches will provide you with 61,563 experience, costing 737,076 coins.
