Home Teleport is a Magic spell (released on 27 September 2006) available to all players. It is a teleport to any lodestone that the player has activated. When the spell is selected, players are prompted to choose their destination. When right-clicking the Home Teleport spell it gives an option to teleport to the last lodestone that was used.

Lodestones are located in or near the following locations:

Available to all players Available to members
Lumbridge Lunar Isle
Draynor Village Ardougne
Edgeville Yanille
Al Kharid Seers' Village
Falador Catherby
Port Sarim Burthorpe
Varrock Taverley
Kharidian Desert Bandit Camp
A player using the Home Teleport spell.

Casting the spell takes about ten seconds, and can be interrupted by combat. This is in contrast to other teleports, which can be cast instantly, assuming the player has the required runes and magic level. Furthermore, the spell cannot be cast during combat and thus cannot be used to escape a fight. Like most teleport spells, the spell cannot be cast beyond level 20 Wilderness.

When the player arrives at the destination, the camera will face North, identical to clicking the compass.

The spell can be cast repeatedly, without any cooldown period between casts. Players can easily use this spell to figure out if they are being affected by Teleport Block, by attempting to cast it. It will not work if the player is teleblocked. If the spell starts to work, the player can do something (like clicking to move a little) to interrupt the teleportation.

Solomon's General Store

With the release of Solomon's General Store on 17 July 2012, there are alternative animations players may buy with runecoins to play instead of the current animation.

History and glitches

The spell was introduced on the 27 September 2006 in the Skill Tutors update.<ref>Game Update of 2006-09-27, "Skill Tutors" - Runescape.com</ref> In the Dream Mentor update on the 15 May 2007, it was called "Lumbridge Home Port", most likely because the complete name couldn't fit. This was later changed, by placing a line break between home and teleport. A Home Teleport Spell was updated to be included in all spellbooks.<ref>Game Update of 2007-05-15, "Dream Mentor" - RuneScape.com</ref> A player could then return to Lumbridge (normal spellbook), Burthorpe (normal spellbook), Edgeville (Ancient Magicks), or Lunar Isle (Lunar Magicks), respectively. However, there was a 30 minute cooldown between teleports until a hidden update removed it on 28 March 2011.

When the spell first came out, the player could activate the spell, and after drawing the circle, click on the minimap. In this case, the player would walk to the spot with a white ring following him/her at his/her feet, though the player would not be teleported. This was fixed shortly after the bug was reported.

Days after the spell was released, a player could perform an emote in the midst of drawing the circle, causing the player to freeze in a bending-over animation.

There was also a glitch which involved the Wilderness Ditch. If a player used the spell and quickly clicked the ditch, the player would hover over the ditch instead of jumping over. This was fixed by Jagex with an update.

There is a glitch where the player appears to be able to repeatedly cast the spell. This can be achieved by starting to cast it and then reclicking on the teleport button as the player gets out his or her spellbook.

There was a glitch where a player is standing in the circle. This can be achieved by casting the spell then using the emote Goblin Salute. This has been fixed however. You can also perform this glitch on another player in Daemonheim by using food on them while they are home teleporting. This causes them to stand up and a book to float at their knees. This has not been fixed. Another glitch that occasionally happens is that the book the player reads is visible if the camera is rotated behind the player.

The player will also stand up if taking a drink of water while sitting on the ground for the teleport.

The sound of the teleport was changed in the 9 August 2011 graphical and audio update.

There is a glitch involving a player casting the Teleport while wearing an ankle length skirt/robe (such as druidic mage bottom). When the player sits down the player looks like they have no legs.

There is a glitch, where you cast the spell as usual, then use the Explorer's ring 3 or the Explorer's ring 4 to Cabbage Port to the cabbage field in midst animation. Instead of stopping the Home Teleport and kneeling into a cabbage, the player simply sits still, and still teleports with no animation. This has not been fixed.

Controversy

Before the lodestone update, there has been a wide controversy of the values of this spell and the Lumbridge Teleport Spell among players. One of the most common issues raised by players is that the Home Teleport spell removes a great deal of risk from the game (since players can visit any area and have a means of escape, though a number of seconds undisturbed are needed, so this is not a certain means of escape).

At the same time, players have said the spell is helpful in encouraging new players to visit dangerous areas they would not have otherwise visited, thus helping to support new updates.

Another argument is that in RuneScape Classic, duelling everywhere was allowed, which provided "free teleports" to Lumbridge. Lumbridge Home Teleport now replaces the function of it.

The reason this spell has a magic level requirement of 0 is to prevent players from not being able to cast this spell in the event of having their magic level drained to 0. An update made player able to teleport to various places using lodestones.

Trivia

  • It is possible to imitate the old home teleport animation, by dropping an Elemental shield and then resting.
  • There is disagreement on whether the player takes out the book to read because the player is bored, waiting to arrive or to read an incantation for the teleport. Though the latter seems to be the most likely of the two; the player looks upwards in the midst of the teleport.
  • If a player sends a trade request, and then someone accepts it while the player is home teleporting, the player will be in the home teleport position, but it is halted.
  • This teleport was to be cast when finished with Tutorial Island.
  • Since the graphical update on the home teleport, the mechanics of the teleport seems to have changed. Before the update, the player seemed to sink into the ground and fade at the same time, whereas now the player flies into the air as white pulse and flies back down at the lodestone.
  • If you drink a prayer renewal potion, and use home teleport, when the animation of the potion appears, the home teleport animation will be gone, and you will see your character flying into the air without any animation.
  • There is a graphical glitch which, if the Home Teleport spell is cast standing on certain areas of the Phoenix's materialisation circle, neither the circle the player [normally] draws, nor the teleport animation show, and the player merely fades out. This also occurs in some other areas, notably in the area after defeating Bork (although sometimes the falling rocks disturb the spell so the animation fails anyway).
  • There is a glitch when you home teleport to lunar isle and go to the area with suquahs, then log out and back in, if you cast the home teleport to edgville right away, and a suquah attacks you, the character stands up yet the animation of teleporting still plays. This means the book appears at the players knees and then the player will teleport even though the creature is attacking you. This only works when auto retaliate is turned on.
