Recommended: Bringing 5 Water runes to make the 5 steam runes at the Fire altar saves a trip to the Water Altar. 5 Fire runes can be used at the Water Altar instead, but is not recommended as it is further away. This method will leave you with 5 spare pure essence from those given to you during the quest, so you will only need to bring 15 (instead of 20) more essence. Teleporting straight to the fire runecrafting altar using a wicked hood is highly recomended. | |

Getting Started
- Talk to Apprentice Clerval in the basement of the Mage Training Arena.
Wizard Dougal
- Talk to Wizard Dougal who is also in the basement.
- Obtain mind and body runes and runecraft some Steam runes.
- Talk to Dougal.
- Give the runes to Clerval.
Wizard Edvin
- Talk to Wizard Edvin.
- Solve the portal maze.
- The solution is as follows with the blue dots representing the portals to enter.

- Take the Edvin's tool to Clerval.
Wizard Shug
- Talk to Wizard Shug on the top floor of the arena.
- Obtain five Pizazz points from any of the Mage Training Arena minigames.
- Talk to Shug.
- Give Clerval twenty Rune essence or Pure essence and use two Emeralds on the workbench in the basement.
Finishing Up
- Talk to Clerval and complete his wire puzzle.
- When finished, click the green check button.
- Use the carving tool on the lump of rune essence.
- Talk to Clerval.
- Quest complete!
