Tradeable items can be:

When RuneScape was first released, all items could be traded. However, following complaints that quests were too easy this way, many quest items were made non-tradeable. Members items are non-tradeable and cannot be high-alched on free servers.

When trading items with another player, players will be notified of the market value of the item, and the "wealth" that they are transferring to the other player. The old method of checking current prices of items, commonly called "Price check", was by trading with other players. To facilitate this, a feature known as Price Checker was introduced in 2009. This feature is accessed through the Worn Equipment menu.

Tradeable items, if dropped, appear on the ground or on the floor if in a building just like non-tradeable items. The difference is that after some time, tradeable items become visible to other players.

In June 2010, there was a glitch that allowed players to trade untradable items while in Daemonheim. A player was able to drop an untradable item, which would appear to other players. However, in practice, most untradable items could not be transferred this way because they had to be smuggled in (using another glitch) via a familiar, which could not hold untradable items. Extreme and overload potions were among the most commonly transferred. The glitch was fixed after about a week of its discovery.

Some untradable items, such as lilies of the valley, can be given to another player by using them with the recipient.
