Tome Raider is content that has not appeared in game. It may be involved in an upcoming update, or its development and release may have been cancelled entirely.

Tome Raider was a planned quest that was cancelled. It was to involve breaking Sir Ewain (renamed Sir Owen), a Signature Hero, out of prison.

Announcement

Mod John A announcing the quest's planned name.

Initial Announcement

The quest that would become Tome Raider was first announced in the Development Diary "Who are the Signature Heroes?". <ref name="shblog">Mod John A. "Who are the Signature Heroes?". 29-June-2010. Developers' Blogs. *</ref>

There’s a quest in development right now where you can work with Sir Ewain on a Temple Knight mission, and we’ll be producing quests involving the other heroes later this year.

Later Announcement

Tome Raider was announced on 23 July 2010 by Mod John A as part of the Live Developer Q&A.

Well...I'd like to say something, but I'm not sure how much I ought to say. I won't say anything about the requirements, but the current planned title is 'Tome Raider', and the quest involves breaking the white knight [signature] hero out of prison.

Cancellation

This quest was confirmed to be cancel by Mod Mark on the RuneScape forums. There were two reasons it was cancelled:

  1. We had plans to use Sir Owen, the main character of Tome Raider, in a low level quest that was due to be released in the future. We felt that introducing him twice – once in Tome Raider and once in this low level quest – would be very odd. Any subsequent quests that feature the character, like Tome Raider, will include the lower level quest as a pre-requisite.
  2. Much of the gameplay within the quest was quite similar to the ‘Void Knight’ series of quests we released this year. Although we often have quests with similar gameplay aspects, we don't launch them in the same year.
